Here is what a furnace and air conditioner replacement costs at our company. Table first, since that is what you came for.

Complete systems, installed, old equipment hauled out. Your size is on the model number of the outdoor unit, and if you would rather not go squint at a sticker, the estimator walks you to it in about two minutes.

Why the spread is so wide

The bottom of each range is a straightforward single-stage system. It will heat and cool your house and run for years and there is nothing wrong with it. The top is variable speed, high efficiency equipment that runs quieter, holds a steadier temperature, and pulls a lot more humidity out of the air in August, which in this climate is most of what people mean when they say a house feels better. Both ends are real systems we install every week. Most people land somewhere in the middle.

Why these are on the internet at all

Ask most contractors what a system costs and you get some version of “we would have to come take a look.” That is true. It is also a way of not answering, and everybody knows it.

The looking matters for the last few thousand dollars. It does not matter for the first ten. We already know what the equipment costs, we already know roughly what the labor runs, and pretending otherwise so we can get a salesperson into your living room is not a business I want to run.

There is a second thing, which is that a published price keeps us honest. When the number is on the internet it has to be the number, every time, for everybody. It cannot drift up because the house is nice or because somebody sounds worried on the phone. If a quote from us ever comes back looking nothing like the range you saw here, ask, and you should get a specific answer rather than a shrug.

What we still have to come see

Every replacement gets installed on top of ductwork, venting, electrical and a drain line that somebody else built, sometimes decades ago. Usually it is all fine. Sometimes the return is undersized and has been quietly strangling the system for fifteen years, or the flue needs work, or the last guy left you a system a full ton too big for the house and matching it would just repeat his mistake.

None of that is visible from your address. That is the whole job of the free measurement, and it is why the number online is a range instead of a promise.

Two things the tool does not price

Heat pumps and dual fuel systems are not in it. They cost differently than a gas furnace paired with an AC and we would rather give you that number in person than publish one we are not confident in.

Ductless is priced separately because it is a different job: $7,000 to $10,000 for one zone, $11,000 to $15,000 for two, $12,500 to $18,000 for three. Its own tool is the mini split estimator, and there is a longer piece on when ductless is actually the right answer.

Things people ask

Is this binding? No, and anybody who tells you a price sight unseen is binding is selling you something. It is a range. The number firms up after we measure.

Do I have to hand over my phone number to see it? No. The range shows up as you answer questions about the house. Booking is a separate button at the end and closing the tab is a completely fine outcome.

Is removal included? Yes. Taking the old system out is part of putting a new one in. It is not a line item that shows up later.

My system died last night. Should I be doing this? Call us instead. The estimator is for planning. When there is no heat in February a person on the phone beats a web page every time.

Somebody already quoted me and it seems high. Run the estimator, then get a free second opinion. Plenty of the quotes we look at turn out to be fair, and we tell people that.
