Heat pumps that hardly rest, over ground that holds water.
Across ZIP 22734, about three owner homes in four heat with electricity, and utility gas reaches roughly one in a hundred. Around here electric heat usually means a heat pump, and a heat pump pushes its air through the same ducts in January as in July. The NOAA normals station about ten miles north-northeast of town counts roughly 4,700 heating degree days and 1,000 cooling degree days a year, so a Remington blower runs through most of the calendar.
The old town grid is a different job. Fauquier County’s plan counts 75 buildings in town that merit the historic registers, many of them Victorian, Queen Anne and I-plan houses, and about 590 homes in the ZIP were built before 1960. Those houses were built long before central air, so whatever ductwork they have went in later, squeezed through closets, chases and crawl spaces wherever it fit. Retrofit runs bend tightly, and dust piles up at the bends.
Then there’s the ground. The County’s plan says the soils here settled out of a shallow lake long ago and hold water, which it says adds to the town’s flooding when the Rappahannock and Tinpot Run rise. A crawl space over ground like that stays damp, so sheet metal rusts at its seams and flexible duct sags where the straps give. When the river crested at 23.1 feet in June 2018, the flood report noted water in a couple of homes. Ductwork that sat in floodwater holds silt after it drains, and we’ll tell you plainly when a section should be replaced instead of cleaned.
About one owner home in eleven here heats mainly with wood. A stove or insert can drop fine ash into the room each time it’s loaded, and the nearest return grille pulls some of it into the system. Rentals are common too: more than four households in ten rent, and the typical rented home went up in 1957. When the rooms are empty at turnover, a landlord gets the same camera photos and the same written price.

What duct cleaning costs in Remington.
The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.
- Return Air Duct Cleaning$298
- Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning$598, regularly $798
- Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning with ActivePure Air Scrubber$1,798
- Dryer Vent Cleaning, on its own$298
- Dryer Vent Cleaning, added to a duct cleaning$199
A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.
The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When duct cleaning is worth it in Remington.
Water got under the house
If the river or Tinpot Run put water in your crawl space or basement, look at the ducts down there before the system runs another season. Silt and debris left in a run blow out through the registers once the blower starts, and the camera shows which runs took water.
Nobody remembers the last time
Which is most houses. Nobody opens a duct, so it never comes up until somebody looks.
You just bought the place
You don’t know whether the last owners had three cats or ever took a register cover off. Most new owners want it done once, early, so they know what they’re starting with.
How to pick the best duct cleaning company in Remington.
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.
Will the camera go into the crawl space runs?
In an older Remington house the worst ductwork is often the hardest to reach: low, damp and under the oldest part of the floor. Ask whether those runs get photographed and cleaned too, or only the ones near the registers upstairs.
Do they look before they quote?
Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.
Do they clean the returns, or only the supply vents?
The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.
Is the price for the whole system, in writing?
Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.
What our customers say.
Aaron Kwon came to clean the air ducts, and he was great. He was thorough and careful and extremely polite–just a nice fellow. The office staff at SwiftPro is also wonderful. I am grateful for their splendid service.

Duct cleaning questions from Remington.
Do you clean ducts in the old houses downtown?
Yes. Houses on Remington’s old streets went up long before forced air, so their ducts were fitted around plaster walls and old framing years later. We work from the registers and returns you have, show you the camera photos, and put the price in writing before any cleaning starts.
How much does air duct cleaning cost in Remington?
$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. A dryer vent is $298 on its own or $199 added to a duct cleaning.
Is it worth it?
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
