What’s different in Stafford

In Stafford the dryer vent hood has to get through blizzards and falling trees.

NOAA’s storm records put 15 to 24 inches across Stafford County in the January 2016 blizzard, and up to 23.5 inches near Roseville in February 2010. Snow that deep can bury a dryer vent hood mounted low on a wall or tucked under a deck, and a buried hood sends the dryer’s hot, damp air back into the line. After a big snow, dig out the hood the same day you dig out the car, and make sure the flap still swings.

Wind does its own damage. A May 2019 thunderstorm blew down six trees in Aquia Harbour, an August 2018 storm dropped more than 50 between Stafford and Falmouth, and in July 2025 numerous trees came down across Stafford. A limb can crack a plastic dryer vent hood or snap the flap off its hinge, and a dryer vent that exits through the roof can lose its cap without anyone noticing from the yard.

About 15 percent of Stafford homes are townhouses, Embrey Mill’s rows off Mine Road among the newest. A middle unit’s dryer vent line has nowhere to go but the front wall, the back wall or the roof, often across a ceiling first. More than 9,000 homes in 22554 went up since 2000, and two-story houses from those years often put the laundry upstairs, with the line threading through the floor framing. None of it shows from the laundry room.

Storms take the power out here too: Tropical Storm Irene left about 8,000 people in Stafford County without it in August 2011. If you run a portable generator in an outage, Stafford County’s emergency managers say to keep it at least 20 feet from the house. Count the dryer vent hood as part of the house. It’s an opening into the laundry room, and exhaust can find its way in through an opening like that.

What it costs

What dryer vent cleaning costs in Stafford.

The same prices as everywhere we work: $298 for dryer vent cleaning on its own, $199 when it’s added to an air duct cleaning, and included every year with Comfort+ membership at $199 a year.

  • Dryer vent cleaning, on its own$298
  • Dryer vent cleaning, added to an air duct cleaning$199
  • Comfort+ membership, dryer vent cleaning every year included$199 a year

The price covers the whole dryer vent line, from the back of the dryer to the hood outside, with camera photos of what we find, a dated invoice, and before and after photos of your line when we can get a clear shot. Anything past the cleaning, like a new hose or a guard on the hood, you get the price first.

With Comfort+ membership, $199 a year covers the dryer vent cleaning every year, plus a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit, and we tell you when each one is due.

When it’s due

When a dryer vent needs cleaning in Stafford.

The flap hangs open after a windstorm

A Stafford storm that drops limbs can bend the flap on the dryer vent hood so it no longer closes. Rain, cold air and birds get in after that, and a nest in the line blocks the airflow as surely as lint does.

Towels take two cycles

The first thing most people notice. When the dryer vent is packed, the damp air has nowhere to go, so the clothes stay wet and the dryer runs hot.

It’s been a year

Fire departments around Northern Virginia say once a year, and sooner if clothes start taking longer to dry. If you can’t remember the last dryer vent cleaning, it’s due.

Choosing who cleans it

Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.

  1. Will they reach the roof cap on a townhouse?

A Stafford townhouse or an upstairs laundry can end in a roof cap nobody sees from the ground. Ask how they’ll get to that end, and whether the photos cover the cap as well as the line leading to it.

  2. Do they clean the whole line, end to end?

Brushing the first few feet from the laundry room isn’t a dryer vent cleaning. Ask whether they clean from the back of the dryer to the hood outside, and how they get the lint out of the house instead of pushing it further down.

  3. Do they show you what’s inside the line?

Camera photos of the inside of your dryer vent line are how you know it needed cleaning, and before and after photos are how you know the job was done. Ask to see them, and for a dated invoice if your HOA wants proof.

From our Google reviews

What our customers say.

★★★★★
Moises and SwiftPro were excellent. They cleaned my dryer duct and repaired an area that had become disconnected and was therefore posing a fire hazard. Moises was punctual, friendly, and even went the extra mile to help me briefly with another small household project.

Questions

Dryer vent cleaning questions from Stafford.

What should I check on the dryer vent after a Stafford snowstorm?

Walk out to the hood. Clear the snow a good foot around it, knock any ice off the flap, and run the dryer a minute to feel warm air coming out. If the flap stays shut, or the laundry suddenly takes longer to dry, book the dryer vent cleaning.

Do you clean dryer vents in Stafford rentals?

Yes, and usually the owner books it. Around the courthouse the Census counts more rented homes than owned ones, and between tenants, with the laundry room empty, is the easy time.

How much does dryer vent cleaning cost in Stafford?

$298 booked on its own, $199 added to an air duct cleaning, and included every year with Comfort+ membership at $199 a year.
