Mini Split Replacement: The Joke, Then the Line Set Work

A mini split replacement can go quickly, but the line set connections, the vacuum and the wiring can't be rushed. Those steps decide whether the new system lasts or leaks refrigerant within a year.

What you’re seeing in this video

The joke: the customer asks how soon it can be done, and the tech's answer is say less. A young SwiftPro tech in a backwards cap and SwiftPro hoodie reacts to the camera holding a yellow tool indoors.

Then the real work. On the lawn, a bearded tech in a camo hoodie kneels at a new outdoor mini split condenser, wiring the unit and connecting the line sets, the insulated copper refrigerant lines that run through the wall to the indoor head.

Why it matters in your house

  • Mini split line sets connect with flare fittings. A flare that's cut or tightened badly is the most common source of slow refrigerant leaks on ductless systems.
  • After the lines are connected, the system should be pressure tested and pulled into a deep vacuum to remove air and moisture before refrigerant is released. Skipping it shortens the compressor's life.
  • Ask your installer whether the old line set is being reused or replaced, and why. Reusing one is sometimes fine, but it should be flushed or checked first.

How long does a mini split replacement take?

A single-zone swap on an existing line set often fits in a day, and multi-zone systems or new line routes take longer. What matters more than speed is that the tech pressure tests the lines, pulls a proper vacuum and checks the charge before calling it done. Rushing those steps is how leaks start.
