Every step

This is the whole visit.

Seven things happen, in this order. Ask the technician to hold the blower wheel up before and after; it is the one part of this you can actually be shown.

We look it over first

2

The blower wheel comes out

It has to come out of the furnace to be cleaned. This is how they usually look when it does.

3

This is what is on it

Felted dust packed into every blade. It sits downstream of every filter the house has ever had.

A full tune-up, and it is written down

The part nobody looks at

66 degrees. Set at 69. Heat on.

That is a furnace running and losing. Sometimes the furnace is the problem. Just as often it is airflow, and airflow is the thing that never gets checked.

Inside every furnace there is a blower wheel, a drum with a few dozen small blades on it. It is the fan that pushes your heat through the house, and it sits downstream of every filter the house has ever had. Over ten or fifteen winters those blades pack with a grey felt of dust. A packed wheel moves a fraction of the air it was built to move. So the furnace fires, the air crawls, the rooms at the end of the duct run stay cold, and the thing runs twice as long to get nowhere.

We pull the wheel out and clean it. Most people have never seen theirs. Ask the technician to hold it up before and after.

HVAC thermostat displaying 66 degrees, illustrating temperature control and energy savings.

A real thermostat in a real house. The heat is on and the room is three degrees short. This is what a tired system looks like from the hallway.

Up to 15%

It is on their list, not just ours

Why we inspect the burners

“A dirty burner or cracked heat exchanger causes improper burner operation.”

It happens inside the life of the equipment

A national lab study of ordinary homes found coils foul enough to double the pressure drop across them in seven to eleven years. Same dust, same air path, same blower pushing against it.

Siegel, Walker and Sherman, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, 2002

Why the wheel gets dirty in the first place

Your filter was doing its job.

It just ran out of room. Once a filter loads up, the air stops going through it and starts going around it, and everything the filter was catching goes straight onto the blower wheel. That is the whole mechanism. It is not exotic and it is not your fault.

A new standard filter is part of the $229 visit, and we take the old one away with us.

This is where it ends up. A blower wheel from a SwiftPro heating job in Northern Virginia, with dust packed onto every blade.

No surprises at the door

What the $229 covers, and what it does not.

Printed here, above the button, rather than in small type underneath it.

In the $229

  • One furnace: the blower wheel out and cleaned, a new filter in, and the dampers set for the season.
  • A new standard 1 inch filter, fitted. We take the old one away with us.
  • Heat pump air handlers too. Same job, same price. Nothing burns in one, so the burner and heat exchanger checks simply do not apply.

Costs extra

You hear the price before we touch anything.

  • A second system on the same visit, you get the price before we start, and you can say no to it.
  • A 4 inch or 5 inch media filter, if that is the size your house takes. It costs more than a standard one and we tell you how much before we swap it.
  • An actual repair, this is a cleaning visit. If a part has already failed we price the fix and you decide. Nothing gets repaired without you saying yes.

If we cannot get the wheel out, you pay $67.

On a seized motor, or an assembly that will not come out without breaking something, we stop and tell you why. You pay for the check, not the clean. Not the $229.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask.

Is the $229 a discount off something?

Yes. $467 is our regular price for the same work and $229 is the promotional price. The $67 check is a promotional price too. Both run until December 31, 2026.

Do I need this every year?

The tune-up part, yes, once a year before you lean on the heat. Pulling the blower wheel, no. Every three to five years is plenty for most houses. Sooner if you have dogs, or if you have lived through a renovation with the system running.

My furnace seems fine. Why would I bother?

Because the wheel packs up slowly enough that nobody notices. The house just takes longer to come up to temperature each winter than it did the winter before. If we open yours and it is genuinely clean in there, we will tell you so and you will get the photos. At ten years and older it usually is not.

What happens if you find something wrong?

We tell you what it is, what it costs, and what happens if you leave it alone. Then you decide. We are not going to talk you into a system on a cleaning visit.

Will I actually notice a difference?

ENERGY STAR puts airflow problems at up to 15 percent of a system’s efficiency, and cleaning the blower is on their own maintenance checklist, not just ours. What people tell us they notice first is not the bill though. It is that the far rooms stop lagging behind the rest of the house.

Can I watch you pull the wheel out?

Please do. Ask to see it before and after. It is the part of the visit people remember.
