Commercial Water Heater Repair: Lifting a Tank Into the Ceiling
Office water heaters often hide above the drop ceiling, so when one fails, the leak lands on desks and carpet. On this commercial water heater repair, a tech raises a Rheem tank on a material lift into the open ceiling.

What you’re seeing in this video
Inside an office, the ceiling tiles are out and a bearded tech in a black shirt runs a blue material lift, raising a Rheem tank water heater up into the open drop ceiling. A second tech's arm reaches in to steady it.
A wet-vac and tools sit on the office carpet below, a good hint at how the call started. Outside, the SwiftPro van is parked at the brick building.
Why it matters in your house
- A material lift lets two techs raise a full-size tank overhead without balancing it on ladders. That's safer for them and kinder to your ceiling grid.
- If your building's water heater lives above a ceiling, ask for a drain pan piped to a drain and a leak sensor. Both are small next to replacing soaked tiles and carpet.
- A tank serving a whole office sees more use than a home tank, so its anode rod and relief valve deserve a yearly check.
What should a business do when its water heater leaks?
Shut the cold water valve to the heater and turn off its gas or breaker. Get a wet-vac on the water and move anything electrical away from the drip. Set buckets under dripping ceiling tiles and lift out soaked ones before they fall. Then call a plumber who handles commercial work.
