What’s different in Casanova

Casanova drains go to septic tanks, and the camera’s job stops at the tank

Casanova’s houses drain to their own tanks in the yard, with no public sewer to join. Out here it is Fauquier County’s Health Department, not its building office, that permits a well or a septic system. Septic is outside what we do, so the lid, the baffles and the field stay with a septic firm. The pipe running to them is the plumber’s side, and that is what the camera follows.

When a house on septic backs up, three causes look alike from the bathroom: a full tank, a drain field that can’t take more, and a broken pipe between the house and the tank. USGS finds groundwater levels higher in southeastern Fauquier’s basin, where Casanova sits, and a creek along Meetze Road left its banks in December 2011. The camera rules the pipe in or out.

More than four in ten owner homes in ZIP 20119 predate 1980, and the village adds frame houses from well over a century ago. Under a house from before 1980 the line to the tank can be cast iron, clay or fiber pipe, and all three crack, sag or flake with age. The median owner home, built in 1990, more likely has plastic. The camera shows which you have and how it has held up.

Trees are the other thing to look for. On August 13, 2021, gusts of 60 knots put numerous trees down at Casanova Road and Meetze Road, and a fallen tree takes its root ball with it. Roots from one that stays up grow toward the joints in a line, where moisture seeps out.

What it costs

What a sewer camera inspection costs in Casanova.

Why we’re at the house decides which price you pay. On its own, the line often has to be cleared before the camera can see anything, and that’s what moves the number.

  • Sewer camera inspection, added to a visit$89
  • Sewer camera inspection on its own$500 to $1,700

A locator on the camera head marks the spot and its depth on the ground, so if something needs fixing you know where. If the line is fine, nobody talks about digging.

Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.

When it’s worth a look

When to put a camera down the line in Casanova.

The drains gurgle after a week of rain

In soaked ground a septic system has less room for what the house sends, and slow drains and gurgling are often the first sign. That can be the field, the tank or the pipe. After a week like the July 2025 flash flood on Balls Mill Road, a camera separates the pipe from the other two.

Big trees in the front yard

Roots don’t break a sewer line. They find a crack or a loose joint that’s already there and grow into it, which is why a line under old trees is worth a look before it slows down.

Water comes up the floor drain

When the washer empties and water rises in the basement floor drain, or a toilet gurgles while a sink runs, the main line isn’t carrying it all away. The camera shows why.

Who owns the line

Whose sewer line it is in Casanova.

Fauquier County

On FCWSA sewer, the service line from the main to the property line and the lateral from there to the house are the customer’s to clear. FCWSA clears its mains and fixes a service line under a public street, and it doesn’t reimburse a plumber. Source.

Choosing who runs the camera

How to pick the best plumber for a sewer camera inspection in Casanova.

Questions to ask anybody who offers to put a camera down your line, us included.

  1. Will the plumber tell you where their work ends and a septic contractor’s begins?

With a septic lot, the camera covers the pipe and stops at the tank, and a plumber who says so up front is being straight with you. Ask that anything the camera finds be marked by its distance from the house, so a septic firm, if you need one, can start from that number.

  2. Will they show you what the camera finds?

Ask to see it and to keep a copy. “It’s roots” with nothing to show for it is a guess, and a guess is a bad reason to dig up a yard.

  3. Do they line and dig, or only one?

A company that only digs tends to see a dig, and one that only lines tends to see a liner. We do both, so the footage decides, not the truck.

Questions

Sewer camera questions from Casanova.

Can you pump or inspect my septic tank?

No. The tank is where we hand off, with the pipe to it as the last thing we look at. Pumping, baffles, the lid and the drain field are a septic firm’s jobs. If the camera shows a clear pipe, the trouble lies at the tank or the field, and that is worth knowing before you book anyone.

We just bought a house in Casanova. Is a camera worth it before closing?

On septic, the pipe from the house to the tank is buried, and the sellers may not know its age or material. A camera shows what it is made of and whether it has cracked, sagged or filled with roots, while there is still time to talk about it.

How much does a sewer camera inspection cost in Casanova?

$89 added to a visit we’re already making, $500 to $1,700 booked on its own. The difference is clearing: a visit just for the camera often has to clear the line first.

Should I get a sewer camera inspection before I buy a house?

If the house is older or has big trees out front, yes. A standard home inspection usually doesn’t include one, and in most of Northern Virginia the line from the house toward the street is the owner’s to fix.
