What’s different in Quantico

Quantico’s 50 owner homes are old, and most renters need a written report for their landlord.

The Town of Quantico is small, with about 50 owner homes and a median build year of 1950. Most housing in ZIP 22134 is on Marine Corps Base Quantico, where Liberty Military Housing manages the family quarters. If you live in the Town, your ductwork is likely in an older home. The base is federal property, so Prince William County does not serve it. If you are on base, your maintenance goes through Liberty, not us. This page is for the Town, where we handle the work directly.

About 97% of occupied homes in the Town are rented. This means the person booking the duct cleaning is often a tenant, not the owner. If your air feels dusty or the system sounds loud, tell your landlord. If they do not act, you can hire us to inspect the ducts and provide a written report for them. The report shows the camera photos and the state of the ducts, which helps you document the issue for your lease file.

The Town runs its own small water system and buys treated surface water from the base’s Mainside system. The EPA lists this system at 175 service connections. Because the water is treated surface water, sediment can build up in appliances over time. This does not directly affect the air ducts, but it tells you the water here has minerals. If you have a humidifier or a steam cleaner, check those lines too. Lint and mineral dust can mix in the air ducts.

The weather here can be extreme. The Quantico weather station records show heat indices up to 118 degrees in July 2011, and wind chills down to -5 degrees near the Potomac in December 2022. Cold snaps can stress a heating system, especially if it is in an unheated space. If you have had a freeze or a storm, check your HVAC for leaks or unusual sounds. The town is also near the tidal Potomac, so if you have seen water on the ground after a storm, make sure your equipment is dry before you turn it back on.

What it costs

What duct cleaning costs in Quantico.

The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.

  • Return Air Duct Cleaning$298
  • Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning$598, regularly $798
  • Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning with ActivePure Air Scrubber$1,798
  • Dryer Vent Cleaning, on its own$298
  • Dryer Vent Cleaning, added to a duct cleaning$199

A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.

The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.

When it’s worth doing

When duct cleaning is worth it in Quantico.

A dusty smell when the system starts

Older Town homes often have dust settled deep in the ducts. When the blower kicks on, that air pushes out through the vents. A camera check reveals if there is buildup, so you can see exactly what is there before deciding on a cleaning.

You just bought the place

You don’t know whether the last owners had three cats or ever took a register cover off. Most new owners want it done once, early, so they know what they’re starting with.

You’re seeing it at the registers

Grey fuzz on the register face, or dust back on the furniture a day after you wiped it. That’s the one people usually call about.

Choosing who cleans them

How to pick the best duct cleaning company in Quantico.

Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.

  1. Who usually schedules the duct cleaning in a rental?

Usually the landlord. If your air feels dusty or the system sounds loud, tell your landlord. If they do not act, you can hire us to inspect the ducts and provide a written report for them. The report shows the camera photos and the state of the ducts, which helps you document the issue for your lease file.

  2. Do they look before they quote?

Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.

  3. Do they clean the returns, or only the supply vents?

The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.

  4. Is the price for the whole system, in writing?

Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.

Questions

Duct cleaning questions from Quantico.

I live on Marine Corps Base Quantico. Who cleans my ducts?

Liberty Military Housing owns, manages and maintains the family housing on base. Repairs go through Liberty or the base Family Housing Office, not to us. Prince William County does not serve federal property. If you live in the Town of Quantico, outside the base, we handle the work directly.

Is a permit needed to clean the ducts in the Town?

No. Duct cleaning is a maintenance service, not a construction project. Prince William County’s Building Development Division issues permits for building and trade work, but cleaning ducts does not require one. You can book the service directly with us or through your landlord.

How much does air duct cleaning cost in Quantico?

$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. A dryer vent is $298 on its own or $199 added to a duct cleaning.

Is it worth it?

Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
