Quantico sewer lines: old clay under houses, shared drains under apartments
Prince William County’s address records date at least nine of the 13 homes on 5th Avenue to before 1940, and two houses on 3rd Avenue to 1918. A sewer line under a house that old was most likely clay tile or cast iron. Clay comes in short lengths, each joint an opening for roots; cast iron rusts from inside until scale narrows it. The camera shows which you have.
The Census survey counts 370 homes in the Town, and only 65 are detached houses. Most of the rest sit in buildings of two to nineteen units, and 260 of the 310 occupied homes are rented. Units in a small building usually share one drain line, so the lowest unit backs up first, whichever branch holds the clog. A camera run tells the owner which, and a renter can bring that to the landlord.
The USGS puts the Town’s reference point at 28 feet above sea level, one spot and not an average, on flat Coastal Plain beside the tidal Potomac. Flat ground gives a sewer line little fall. A low spot in the pipe, a belly, holds water and paper, and the camera shows it as standing water in a run that should drain. A clog clears; a belly keeps coming back.
NOAA logged a tree down on Fuller Road in an August 2021 thunderstorm and a 66 mph gust at the air station in the June 2012 derecho. A tree that goes over in a yard can pull a lateral out of line, and one that stays up sends roots toward old clay joints. After a big blow, if a drain turns slow, put the camera down before the next rain.
What a sewer camera inspection costs in Quantico.
Why we’re at the house decides which price you pay. On its own, the line often has to be cleared before the camera can see anything, and that’s what moves the number.
- Sewer camera inspection, added to a visit$89
- Sewer camera inspection on its own$500 to $1,700
A locator on the camera head marks the spot and its depth on the ground, so if something needs fixing you know where. If the line is fine, nobody talks about digging.
Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When to put a camera down the line in Quantico.
The ground-floor drain gurgles when someone upstairs drains a tub
In a building where units share one line, upstairs water passes the lowest unit’s drains on its way out. A tub that gurgles when a washer drains above you means that line is slow below you. Roots, a sag or a joint that has let go are the usual reasons, and the camera finds which.
Water comes up the floor drain
When the washer empties and water rises in the basement floor drain, or a toilet gurgles while a sink runs, the main line isn’t carrying it all away. The camera shows why.
It was cleared, and it’s back
A main line that needs clearing every year or two has a reason, and clearing it again doesn’t find it. A camera down the line after it’s cleared does.
How to pick the best plumber for a sewer camera inspection in Quantico.
Questions to ask anybody who offers to put a camera down your line, us included.
Will the plumber tell you where on the line the problem sits?
In a Town apartment building that answer decides who acts. Ask whether the trouble is in the unit’s own branch or the line the whole building shares, and ask to see that spot on what the camera found. An owner can act on a place along the pipe more easily than on a complaint.
Will they show you what the camera finds?
Ask to see it and to keep a copy. “It’s roots” with nothing to show for it is a guess, and a guess is a bad reason to dig up a yard.
Do they line and dig, or only one?
A company that only digs tends to see a dig, and one that only lines tends to see a liner. We do both, so the footage decides, not the truck.
What our customers say.
Nii is the best. He’s been to the house twice – once for a galvanized to PVC piping change-out, and another time for a badly clogged kitchen line that wouldn’t budge with my snake and a good bit of effort. Super nice guy, very skilled, fair, calm, etc. Exactly what you want in a plumber.

Sewer camera questions from Quantico.
Can you scope my sewer line in Marine Corps Base Quantico housing?
Not aboard the base. Liberty Military Housing owns, manages and maintains the family quarters there, so a backed-up line goes to Liberty or the base Family Housing Office. Prince William County says it doesn’t serve federal property. We work in the Town of Quantico itself.
The drain keeps clearing and then slowing again. What is the camera for?
A drain that keeps returning is usually the pipe: roots at a joint, a sag that holds water, a cracked section. Clearing treats the symptom. If a clearing visit is already booked, the camera is $89 on top of it. In a house from before 1940, like most on 5th Avenue, that is the likelier story.
How much does a sewer camera inspection cost in Quantico?
$89 added to a visit we’re already making, $500 to $1,700 booked on its own. The difference is clearing: a visit just for the camera often has to clear the line first.
Should I get a sewer camera inspection before I buy a house?
If the house is older or has big trees out front, yes. A standard home inspection usually doesn’t include one, and in most of Northern Virginia the line from the house toward the street is the owner’s to fix.
