From clay and cast iron off Route 1 to Leesylvania’s twenty-year-old PVC.
The oldest sewer lines with a Woodbridge address sit under the Census place called Woodbridge, the older ground along Route 1, where about one home in nine went up before 1960 and more than four in ten before 1980. A line that old is usually clay tile or cast iron, and every joint is a seam a root can work into. Houses from the late 1940s into the early 1970s may drain through Orangeburg instead, a pressed fiber pipe that slowly loses its round shape, so on an unknown line there the first tool in should be the camera.
Dale City came next: about four in ten of its homes predate 1980, nearly all of them from the 1960s and 70s. A line from those decades may be cast iron, clay or, in the earliest sections, Orangeburg; by the 1980s builders had mostly gone to plastic. The trees planted with those houses have had half a century to grow.
Lake Ridge and Potomac Mills went up mostly in the 1980s and 90s, six or more homes in ten in each, usually on PVC. Sound plastic keeps roots out; a joint that pulled apart as the trench settled lets them in. Inside the Lake Ridge association, cutting a tree down counts as an exterior alteration, so if the camera traces roots to a tree that has to go, the Architectural Committee signs off first.
Leesylvania and County Center are the newest, eight homes in ten built since 2000, usually PVC all the way to the main. About a third of Leesylvania’s homes are rented, and close to half in the Woodbridge CDP. Virginia law has a landlord keep the plumbing and sanitary facilities in good and safe working order, so in a rental the owner usually books the camera and approves the price.

Census figures for the owner-occupied homes in each place, and the sewer pipe houses that age usually have.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dale City | 1983 | single-family houses, about 7 in 10 | gas, about 7 in 10 | PVC to the street, mostly; a settled trench can leave a sag. |

| Woodbridge | 1976 | single-family houses, about 4 in 10 | gas, about 5 in 10 | Cast iron or clay to the street, with joints roots can get into. |

What a sewer camera inspection costs in Woodbridge.
Why we’re at the house decides which price you pay. On its own, the line often has to be cleared before the camera can see anything, and that’s what moves the number.
- Sewer camera inspection, added to a visit$89
- Sewer camera inspection on its own$500 to $1,700
A locator on the camera head marks the spot and its depth on the ground, so if something needs fixing you know where. If the line is fine, nobody talks about digging.
Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When to put a camera down the line in Woodbridge.
The same rental drain clogs every few months
A tenant calls, the line gets snaked, and it’s back before the lease is up. A camera run right after the next clearing shows whether it’s a root, a sag or something flushed, and the owner gets the footage.
Water comes up the floor drain
When the washer empties and water rises in the basement floor drain, or a toilet gurgles while a sink runs, the main line isn’t carrying it all away. The camera shows why.
It was cleared, and it’s back
A main line that needs clearing every year or two has a reason, and clearing it again doesn’t find it. A camera down the line after it’s cleared does.
How to pick the best plumber for a sewer camera inspection in Woodbridge.
Questions to ask anybody who offers to put a camera down your line, us included.
Will they tell you which tree the roots come from?
The locator on the camera head marks where the roots are, which usually points to one tree. In Lake Ridge the removal application has to show the trees going, so know which one first.
Will they show you what the camera finds?
Ask to see it and to keep a copy. “It’s roots” with nothing to show for it is a guess, and a guess is a bad reason to dig up a yard.
Do they line and dig, or only one?
A company that only digs tends to see a dig, and one that only lines tends to see a liner. We do both, so the footage decides, not the truck.
What our customers say.
We had Tyson out for our main line leaking underground, he explained the scope of work for replacement and set great expectations. They had the job done in a very timely manner and I couldn’t ask for more professionalism than he provided!

Sewer camera questions from Woodbridge.
Who owns the sewer line at my Woodbridge house?
The part on your lot is yours. Prince William Water puts lines and connections on private property on the owner, and the capped cleanout that opens into your line usually sits near the property line. Repairing or replacing the lateral outside the house takes the utility’s own permit and inspection.
My condo is in a building near Route 1. Is the sewer line mine?
Usually only the drains inside your unit. About three homes in ten in the Woodbridge CDP are in condo and apartment buildings, where the pipe leaving the building is shared and the association looks after it. Ask the association before anybody books a camera.
How much does a sewer camera inspection cost in Woodbridge?
$89 added to a visit we’re already making, $500 to $1,700 booked on its own. The difference is clearing: a visit just for the camera often has to clear the line first.
Should I get a sewer camera inspection before I buy a house?
If the house is older or has big trees out front, yes. A standard home inspection usually doesn’t include one, and in most of Northern Virginia the line from the house toward the street is the owner’s to fix.
