Prewar pipe, 1980s plastic, and a downtown sewer that swells when it rains.
Remington built in two bursts. The Census counts 287 homes in ZIP 22734 from before 1940 and 303 more from the 1940s and 50s, then only about 120 across the 1960s and 70s together, then 377 in the 1980s alone. So the pipe under a Remington yard is usually one of two kinds: very old, behind a house that predates World War II, or plastic laid from the 1980s on.
In a prewar house the drain under the floor is often cast iron, and the run out through the yard may be clay tile in short lengths, every joint a spot where roots or groundwater can find a way in. The camera shows each change of material and how every joint has held. In a 1980s line the pipe itself is rarely the issue; a dip where the trench settled usually is.
Groundwater getting in is a real Remington problem. When the Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority, FCWSA, studied every pipe feeding its Remington treatment plant, the downtown streets let in more rain and groundwater than anywhere else, and their flow jumped fast once a storm began. FCWSA names cracked pipe, failed joints and faulty laterals among the ways in, and its multi-year plan rebuilds its own downtown mains and manholes. Your lateral isn’t part of that plan.
In FCWSA’s rules the pipe from its main to your house is the owner’s to keep clear, except the part under a public street. That split decides who pays after a backup: if a failure of FCWSA’s main sent sewage into the house, it offers a cleaning service at its expense, and if its main is flowing, the blockage is yours. More than four households in ten across 22734 rent, and the typical rented home dates from 1957, so the oldest lines in town often belong to landlords.

What a sewer camera inspection costs in Remington.
Why we’re at the house decides which price you pay. On its own, the line often has to be cleared before the camera can see anything, and that’s what moves the number.
- Sewer camera inspection, added to a visit$89
- Sewer camera inspection on its own$500 to $1,700
A locator on the camera head marks the spot and its depth on the ground, so if something needs fixing you know where. If the line is fine, nobody talks about digging.
Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When to put a camera down the line in Remington.
The floor drain only acts up when it rains
A basement drain that gurgles or seeps during a downpour and behaves the rest of the year is telling you rainwater is in the sewer somewhere. Downtown, FCWSA found that pattern in its own pipes. A camera in your line shows whether some of it is getting in on your side, and where.
Big trees in the front yard
Roots don’t break a sewer line. They find a crack or a loose joint that’s already there and grow into it, which is why a line under old trees is worth a look before it slows down.
Water comes up the floor drain
When the washer empties and water rises in the basement floor drain, or a toilet gurgles while a sink runs, the main line isn’t carrying it all away. The camera shows why.
How to pick the best plumber for a sewer camera inspection in Remington.
Questions to ask anybody who offers to put a camera down your line, us included.
Will they measure how far out the problem is?
The distance decides who fixes it. A defect under a public street is FCWSA’s to correct; one between the street and your foundation is yours. Ask for the footage from the cleanout to anything the camera finds.
Will they show you what the camera finds?
Ask to see it and to keep a copy. “It’s roots” with nothing to show for it is a guess, and a guess is a bad reason to dig up a yard.
Do they line and dig, or only one?
A company that only digs tends to see a dig, and one that only lines tends to see a liner. We do both, so the footage decides, not the truck.
What our customers say.
Nii is the best. He’s been to the house twice – once for a galvanized to PVC piping change-out, and another time for a badly clogged kitchen line that wouldn’t budge with my snake and a good bit of effort. Super nice guy, very skilled, fair, calm, etc. Exactly what you want in a plumber.

Sewer camera questions from Remington.
Will FCWSA’s downtown sewer work fix my line too?
No. The Authority’s rehabilitation plan covers its own pipes and manholes in downtown Remington. The service line and lateral serving your house are private in its rules, so a crack in yours stays until you fix it.
My house outside the town limits has a septic tank. Can you camera it?
Not the septic side: SwiftPro doesn’t do septic work. Past the public sewer, Fauquier County’s Health Department permits septic systems. If your house drains to FCWSA’s sewer, the camera and the prices above apply.
How much does a sewer camera inspection cost in Remington?
$89 added to a visit we’re already making, $500 to $1,700 booked on its own. The difference is clearing: a visit just for the camera often has to clear the line first.
Should I get a sewer camera inspection before I buy a house?
If the house is older or has big trees out front, yes. A standard home inspection usually doesn’t include one, and in most of Northern Virginia the line from the house toward the street is the owner’s to fix.
