What you’re seeing in this video

The joke borrows the four elements, water, earth, fire and air, and matches each one to a trade on a four-way split screen.

Earth is a mini excavator digging a trench across a yard while a tech in a grey hoodie watches the cut, the kind of dig a sewer line repair needs. Water is a pair of orange-gloved hands working on a pipe or valve under a cabinet. Air is a bald tech with a red headlamp feeding an air duct cleaning brush into a wall register. Fire is red-gloved hands brazing a line near a cabinet, the torch work behind AC and heat pump installs.

Why it matters in your house

  • One company that handles HVAC, plumbing and air duct cleaning can sort out problems that cross trades, like a condensate leak that looks like a plumbing leak, on one visit.
  • Excavation and sewer work need different equipment than a faucet repair. Ask any plumber whether they dig their own trenches or hand the job off to someone else.
  • Fewer companies in your house means fewer schedules to juggle and one name to call when something's off.

Should I use one company for HVAC and plumbing?

It helps when a problem crosses the line between trades. Water near the furnace might be AC condensate, a furnace drain or a plumbing leak, and one company with both trades can tell which on the first visit. Make sure each trade has its own licensed techs, not one person stretched across all of them.
