Signs You Need a New HVAC System, and Who Crawls Up to Check
The signs you need a new HVAC system: repairs every season, rooms that won't even out, bills climbing with no change in use, and age past 15 years. This clip goes where a tech confirms them.

What you’re seeing in this video
The light is dim because the attic is. A tech in a black hoodie crawls on his knees under the rafters, picking a path between foil-wrapped insulated ducts, the kind of trip most homeowners never make.
At the end of the crawl he's working at the attic air handler, the indoor half of the system that holds the blower and the cooling coil. The on-screen line is about proper HVAC techs, but the real point is access: in an attic install, every check starts with this crawl.
Why it matters in your house
- Uneven temperatures in an attic-system house often trace back to the ducts in that attic, not the equipment. A good assessment checks both before anyone recommends a new system.
- Three or more repair calls in two years on a system past 15 is the usual tipping point. Each new repair puts real money into equipment that's still old.
- Attic air handlers sit over finished ceilings. A rusty drain pan or clogged condensate line up there can stain drywall long before you notice the AC acting up.
How do I know when my HVAC system needs replacing?
Look at age first: past 15 years on the AC or about 20 on a furnace, you're in replacement territory. Then add the symptoms: repeat repair calls, rooms that never feel the same, bills rising with no change in use, a system that runs and runs. Two or more of those on an older system usually means it's time to price a new one.
