Blower Wheel Cleaning: A Squeaky Clean Wheel, Then the Ducts

Blower wheel cleaning gets the fan inside your furnace moving full air again. This clip shows the cleaned wheel out of the unit, the dusty supply plenum it pushes air into, and the clean blower compartment after.

What you’re seeing in this video

The blower wheel, the squirrel-cage fan that moves all the air in your system, sits on the ground near the SwiftPro van. The text on screen calls it squeaky clean, and the curved blades show clean metal all the way around.

Then the inside of the supply plenum, the box the blower pushes air into. It's still dusty, and the on-screen line makes the point: dirty ducts need cleaning too.

Last, the blower compartment, the cabinet the wheel lives in, shows clean with its warning label in view. That's the furnace ready to move air again.

Why it matters in your house

  • A dirty blower wheel moves less air, even at full speed. Dust packs into the cupped blades and flattens their shape, so the system runs longer to heat or cool the same rooms.
  • Cleaning the wheel and skipping the ducts leaves the plenum ready to dust it right back up. The two belong together.
  • If your furnace hums along but the airflow at the registers feels weak, ask the tech to pull the blower door and look at the wheel.

How do you know if your blower wheel is dirty?

With the power off, open the blower door and shine a light on the fan blades. Clean blades show metal with clear curves. Dirty ones look fuzzy or caked, sometimes almost solid. Weak airflow, a louder blower and a furnace that runs long are the signs. Real cleaning means pulling the wheel out, not brushing it in place.
