I Can Do It Motivation on Install Day: Old Unit Out, New One In

I can do it motivation, laid over an HVAC install day: new equipment carried up the driveway, the old cabinet hauled out, and a new air handler being prepped in a garage. One job at a time.

What you’re seeing in this video

A tech in a grey cap and black jacket carries a boxed unit up a driveway from a SwiftPro pickup truck.

Next, two techs in shoe covers haul an old cabinet out of the house and past the trash cans, one in a black cap and olive pants, another in a grey cap and sunglasses behind it.

In the garage, a bearded tech in a black cap and a work hoodie gets a new air handler ready to set. An air handler is the indoor half of a heat pump or AC system, the cabinet holding the blower and coil.

Why it matters in your house

  • Shoe covers going in and out mean the installers are thinking about your floors while carrying heavy equipment. Expect that on any install.
  • Ask where the old equipment goes. It should leave with the installers, and the refrigerant in it must be recovered, not vented, under federal law.
  • Garage air handlers sit in a space that runs hot in summer and cold in winter. Make sure the new one's ducts and refrigerant lines get proper insulation.

What happens on an HVAC installation day?

The installers protect the floors, recover refrigerant from the old system, then remove the old equipment. The new indoor and outdoor units go in, lines and wiring get connected, the system is vacuumed and charged, and the tech tests heating and cooling before walking you through the thermostat. Most homes take a day.
