Goodman vs Trane comes down to the warranty paperwork more than the furnace. On efficiency they’re neck and neck: Goodman’s best furnace is rated up to 97% AFUE, Trane’s up to 97.3%. The difference is what happens in year 12: Trane gives a registered furnace’s heat exchanger a limited lifetime warranty on most models, and Goodman’s 2026 certificates give it 20 years. Our pick is Trane. A furnace and AC we install runs $8,898 to $23,000, by size and efficiency. From about $148 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit.

Goodman’s older spec sheets, still online, say “lifetime heat exchanger.” The certificates Goodman published for October 2026 say 20 years. Go by the certificate.
Is Goodman a good brand?
Yes, for what it is. Goodman furnaces are designed and assembled in the U.S., Daikin stands behind them, and the premium models carry a real perk: if the heat exchanger fails in the first five years of a registered furnace that’s had its yearly maintenance, Daikin replaces the whole unit once. Plenty of Goodman systems run fine for a long time.
On reliability, the one public brand result is Consumer Reports’ 2022 central air survey: Goodman got a “Fair” reliability rating, and Trane was the only one of 21 brands rated Excellent for both reliability and owner satisfaction (Consumer Reports, 2022).
What you give up is the long tail. Twenty years on the heat exchanger instead of lifetime, and nothing on labor from the maker. If you plan to stay in the house, that tail is the part you’ll actually use.
Why we’d still put in a Trane
Trane says every product goes through rigorous testing in its own SEET labs, its registered heat exchanger warranty runs for life on most furnaces, and we buy Trane through Ferguson. We add two years of our own labor on every install, so if a covered part fails in those two years, the part and the labor to put it in are both taken care of.
Goodman AC and heat pump problems we see
The same things that hit every brand: a run capacitor that weakens in the heat, a contactor that sticks, a clogged condensate drain, a dirty outdoor coil, and refrigerant leaks. A Goodman that needs refrigerant every summer is leaking, and the fix is finding the leak, not topping it up. Each one is a part with a price; the diagnostic is $99, and the Goodman page lists the repairs.
Goodman vs Trane questions people ask us
Is Goodman as good as Trane?
Close on efficiency (97% against 97.3% at the top), behind on the long warranty: Goodman’s registered heat exchanger is 20 years, Trane’s is a limited lifetime on most furnaces. We install Trane first.
Are Goodman, Amana and Daikin the same?
Same company. Daikin bought Goodman in 2012, and Amana’s heating and cooling line is made under license by Daikin. The models, names and warranties differ.
Does Goodman still have a lifetime heat exchanger warranty?
Not on its current certificates. Goodman’s October 2026 furnace certificates give 20 years when the furnace is registered within 60 days, and 10 if it isn’t. Older spec sheets online still say lifetime.
Do you repair Goodman?
Yes. The diagnostic is $99, the repair is priced in writing before any work, and the Goodman repair page has the common repairs and their prices.
