All October, book a dryer vent cleaning and we’ll clean a second one free for a friend, neighbor or family member. Yours is $199, normally $298, with a year of Comfort+ membership included. Not sure who? We’ll pay it forward to an older neighbor or a veteran who needs it. Claim it at goswiftpro.com/fireprevention, or call (703) 997-9757.

How it works: buy one, gift one, or pay it forward

  • Buy one. Book your dryer vent cleaning any day from October 1 to October 31: $199, normally $298, with a year of Comfort+ membership included. The year also covers a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, and a heating and a cooling maintenance visit.
  • Gift one. Tell us who it’s for, a friend, a neighbor or family in Northern Virginia, and we clean their dryer vent free, done by Thursday, December 31.
  • Or pay it forward. Not sure who? We’ll give it to an older neighbor or a veteran who needs it.

You don’t have to know who it’s for when you book. Tell us when we call, or any time before it’s due.

The $199 version: Comfort+ membership

Comfort+ is our home membership, $199 a year, and your dryer vent cleaning is one of four visits it covers every year. The other three are a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit in the fall and a cooling maintenance visit in the spring. We call you when each one is due, book it and keep the records. Members also get 15% off any service, and half of every repair bill is banked toward replacing that system, up to $1,500.

On October 5, 2026 we read the published plans of 13 other heating, cooling and plumbing companies in Northern Virginia. None of them includes a dryer vent cleaning. See what’s in Comfort+.

Who to give it to

  • A friend. The one who just bought a house, or who’d never think to check.
  • A neighbor. The couple next door, or the family that just moved in.
  • Family. Your parents’ house, or your kids’ first one.
  • Pay it forward. Not sure who? We’ll give it to an older neighbor, a veteran, or another neighbor who needs it.

Everyone visits Mom and Dad. Nobody looks behind the dryer.

We fix the TV, change the smoke alarm battery when it chirps, carry the heavy groceries in. The dryer vent never comes up, because it’s out of sight: behind a machine nobody moves and up a wall to a flap outside. Cleaning it means pulling the dryer out and getting to the hood on the outside of the house, often on a ladder, the same kind of job as the gutters or the roof. Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults 65 and older, according to the CDC, and adults 65 and older are 2.5 times as likely to die in a fire as the population as a whole (U.S. Fire Administration).

Why a dryer vent is a fire prevention job

Lint that gets past the screen builds up inside the vent line, where nobody sees it. Dryers were involved in 13,820 home fires a year nationwide from 2014 to 2018, and a failure to clean was the leading cause, at 32 percent. Lint and dust were the first thing to catch fire more often than anything else (National Fire Protection Association). Dryer fires run higher in fall and winter and peak in January (U.S. Fire Administration), so October is a good time to get ahead of it.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue says to clean the vent pipe once a year, or sooner if clothes start taking longer to dry (their dryer safety tips).

It happens here

In Burke, a smoke alarm woke a family at 2:13 a.m. after lint inside their townhouse’s dryer vent caught fire. Everyone got out, but five people were displaced and the family dog died (Fairfax County Fire and Rescue). In Dumfries in November 2025, lint built up in a dryer vent set the back of a house on fire and left it unsafe to live in, and the county’s advice afterward was a professional dryer vent cleaning every year (Patch). There are more local stories on the offer page.

Smoke alarms matter as much as the vent. Almost 3 in 5 home fire deaths came from fires with no smoke alarm, or one that didn’t work (National Fire Protection Association). Press the test button on every alarm when you visit, and replace any alarm more than 10 years old.

Signs a dryer vent is due

  • Towels need a second cycle.
  • The top of the dryer is hot to the touch.
  • The laundry room gets hot while it runs.
  • There’s lint behind the dryer or around the flap outside.
  • The flap outside doesn’t open when the dryer runs.

What each cleaning includes

Yours and the one you give away are the same job. We put a camera in, photograph what’s there and show the homeowner, then brush and vacuum the whole line, from the back of the dryer to the hood on the outside wall, measure the airflow at the hood with the dryer running, check the hose behind the dryer for kinks and crushing, make sure the flap outside opens, and photograph the line before and after when we can get a clear shot.

If a line needs a part or a repair, we show the homeowner the price first and it’s their call. The gift cleaning itself costs them nothing.

The fine print

One free dryer vent cleaning to give away with each dryer vent cleaning ($298) or new Comfort+ membership ($199 a year, dryer vent cleaning included) booked October 1 through 31, 2026. It covers one dryer vent line at a home in the area we serve, done by December 31, 2026, and it can’t be traded for cash or another service. How it works, on the offer page.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Once a year, or sooner if clothes start taking longer to dry. That’s Fairfax County Fire and Rescue’s advice.

Can a clogged dryer vent start a fire?

Yes. In the National Fire Protection Association’s numbers for 2014 to 2018, a failure to clean was the leading cause of home dryer fires, at 32 percent.

Do other home maintenance plans include dryer vent cleaning?

Not that we found. Of the 13 other Northern Virginia plans we read on October 5, 2026, none includes a dryer vent cleaning. Comfort+ does, along with a water heater flush.

When is Fire Prevention Week 2026?

Sunday, October 4 through Saturday, October 10. The National Fire Protection Association holds it every year during the week of October 9. Our offer runs all of October.
