Ask these before you sign

Four warranty questions, and our answer to each

If a company can’t answer one of these in a line, that’s your answer.

1. Who registers the equipment with the manufacturer?

We do. We register the new unit with the manufacturer for you, which is what activates the full parts warranty.

Why ask: most major brands give 10 years on parts only if the unit’s registered in time, usually 60 to 90 days after the install. Miss it and most drop to 5.

2. How many years of labor come with it?

Two years of our labor, included on a new HVAC install. You can extend the labor to 5 or 10 years, priced on your quote.

Why ask: the 10 years is parts. One year of labor is common, and when a part fails under warranty, the labor and refrigerant are still most of the bill. The compressor numbers are below.

3. What keeps it covered, and who keeps the records?

The first year of maintenance is included, two visits. After that, Comfort+ is $199 a year, and we book the visits and keep the records.

Why ask: a parts claim can come down to whether the system was looked after, and whether anyone can show it.

4. Who do I call when something breaks?

Us, at (703) 997-9757. It’s on the sticker we put on the unit.

Why ask: a warranty is only as good as the number you call. Ours is the one on the van and on the unit.

Why labor years matter

What a compressor costs, under warranty or out

The compressor is the most expensive part in the system. Even with the part covered, the labor isn’t small.

Compressor, part under warranty

$1,900 to $2,500

or $32/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

Labor and refrigerant, when the manufacturer still covers the part. Worth checking before anyone quotes you a system.

Compressor, out of warranty

$2,200 to $5,100

or $37/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

The big one, and the point where replacing the system usually wins the argument. We give you both numbers.

Monthly figures: 60mo @ 0% APR on each starting price, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. The lender sets the final terms. How financing works

Keeping it covered

After the first year: Comfort+ keeps the visits going

The first year of maintenance comes with a new system. Comfort+ is how the visits keep coming.

  • $199 a year, or $20 monthly.
  • Four visits every year: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit in the fall and a cooling maintenance visit in the spring.
  • 15 percent off any service.
  • Half of each repair bill banked toward replacing that same system, up to $1,500. Each credit lasts 24 months, and it goes with the house if you sell.
  • Repair labor on what we installed, years 3 to 10: 20 percent off, as long as the membership stays continuous.
  • We book every visit and keep the records.

Asked on the phone

HVAC warranty questions from Northern Virginia homeowners

What warranty comes with a new HVAC system from SwiftPro?

10 years on parts, from the manufacturer, once the unit is registered, and we register it for you. 2 years of our labor come included on a new HVAC install, and 5- and 10-year labor extensions are available, priced on your quote. The first year of maintenance is included too: two visits.

Do I have to register a new AC or furnace to get the full warranty?

At most major brands, yes. The 10 years on parts usually needs the unit registered within 60 to 90 days of the install, and miss it and most drop to 5. We register the new unit with the manufacturer for you, which is what activates the full parts warranty.

What is the Mitsubishi Electric 12-year warranty?

Qualifying Mitsubishi Electric systems installed by a Diamond Contractor can be registered for a 12-year parts and 12-year compressor limited warranty. It has to be registered within 90 days of the install. We’re a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, and we register it for you.

Does a compressor under warranty still cost money to replace?

Usually. The warranty covers the part, and the labor and refrigerant to swap it run $1,900 to $2,500. Out of warranty, the whole job runs $2,200 to $5,100. That’s why the years of labor on a quote matter as much as the years on parts. From about $32 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. How financing works

Can you look over a warranty on a quote I already have?

Yes. Send us the quote through our second opinion page and we’ll go through the warranty with you, line by line: what’s parts, what’s labor, who registers it and for how long.
