Written October 2026, with the City of Alexandria’s and Fairfax County’s permit pages, the state code, the Census and every review platform read the same month.

A new furnace and air conditioner in Alexandria runs $8,898 to $23,000 installed, depending on the size of the house and the equipment you pick. From about $148 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. That’s our Northern Virginia price book, the same in the City and on the Fairfax County side, and it’s posted on our Alexandria furnace and AC page before anyone comes out.

Alexandria is the town our heating and cooling crews work in more than any other. We’re there nearly every weekday, inside the City and across the Fairfax County side, which is where most of the Alexandria addresses we work at actually are. This guide covers what a replacement costs, which of the two permit offices your house answers to, and what to check about any company before it touches your system.

No heat or no cooling right now? Call (703) 997-9757. We run 24/7 emergency service.

In Alexandria nearly every weekday

Our shop is on Lafayette Center Drive in Chantilly. Our crews spend their days out across Northern Virginia, and Alexandria gets more of those days than anywhere else: in the City, from Old Town and Del Ray to Rosemont, Parker-Gray, Seminary Hill and the West End, and on the Fairfax County side, from Kingstowne, Franconia and Rose Hill to Huntington, Belle Haven, Hybla Valley and Mount Vernon. The work is done by our own HVAC team, separate from our plumbers.

The mailing address says Alexandria either way, but the City and Fairfax County are different governments with different permit offices, and that matters when a system gets replaced. More on that below.

Each service we do in Alexandria has its own page, and every one opens with the price: furnace and AC replacement, furnace replacement, heat pump replacement, boilers, AC repair and furnace repair. The rest is on our Alexandria page.

Two Alexandrias, and the houses in each

On the Fairfax County side, where most of our Alexandria calls are, about four in ten homes are detached houses, about a quarter are townhouses and about a quarter are in condo and apartment buildings. More than half went up before 1980. Gas heats more than six in ten owner-occupied homes, with about a third on electricity (Census: homes by type, year built, heating fuel).

Inside the City the houses run older, and more of the homes are condos and apartments (year built). It’s also where hot-water heat hangs on. We still work on boilers and radiators inside the City, and on the Fairfax County side we rarely see one. Our Alexandria boiler guide covers that side of it.

The rule we use on a repair call: under about eight years old, repair almost anything. Past about fourteen, a compressor, a heat exchanger or a reversing valve is replacement money, and that’s the time to put a replacement price beside the repair price before you decide. In between, it depends on the part and the shape of the rest of the system. Repair vs replace your AC has the longer version.

Our Alexandria heating repair guide goes neighborhood by neighborhood, with what each repair costs, including the shared chimney question that comes with a high efficiency furnace on the older streets.

What a new system costs in Alexandria

Installed prices from our price book for 2 to 5 ton systems, the same numbers our HVAC estimator works from. The size of the house, the efficiency you pick, and what the ductwork and venting need decide where you land.

The job Installed Or monthly
Furnace and AC replaced together $8,898 to $23,000 $148/mo at 0% APR for 60 months
Furnace alone, keeping your AC $4,285 to $14,040 $71/mo at 0% APR for 60 months
Heat pump system $8,499 to $21,650 $142/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

Monthly figures: 60mo @ 0% APR on each starting price, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. The lender sets the final terms.

The estimator gives your house its own number in about two minutes. Then one of our technicians measures, and the price is in writing before anything is ordered. Two years of our labor come with every install, and five or ten are available. Here’s how financing works.

Our reviews, and what Alexandria customers say

Counted across every platform we’re on, we’re rated 5.0 stars across 1,132 reviews on Google, Angi, Yelp, the BBB and Facebook. The lowest of them is Yelp, at 4.4 stars, about one in twenty of the total, and it’s in the count on purpose. A number that leaves out the hard site isn’t the whole number.

Some of those reviews come from Alexandria. After an install: “Honest, competent and knowledgeable install, fair. Hard to find service like this in Alexandria.” (J. F., Google, April 2025.) And from a Rosemont condo, inside the City: “…we had swift and professional responses for multiple plumbing and HVAC needs in our Rosemont Alexandria condo” (Bradford S., Google, January 2026).

Each platform’s rating, its count and the date it was read are at swiftproreviews.com, and the reviews themselves are on our reviews page. Read the low ones before you decide.

What to check about any Alexandria HVAC company

  1. The license. Look the company up on DPOR’s License Lookup. The name should match your estimate, the license should be active, and it should cover HVAC. Ours is Virginia Class A 2705192276, printed on the side of our vans.
  2. The permit, from the right office. An Alexandria mailing address doesn’t tell you which government you’re under. Inside the City, the City requires permits for most construction and maintenance work, and its application asks for the contractor’s state license number; a homeowner doing the work files an owner’s affidavit instead. On the Fairfax County side, the County requires a mechanical permit to replace a heating or cooling system and recommends the licensed contractor pull it as the responsible party. On either side, Virginia’s residential code doesn’t exempt gas appliances from permits, so a gas furnace swap needs one even when it’s like for like.
  3. Every line in writing. The AC or heat pump’s size in tons and its SEER2 rating, the furnace’s size and efficiency, the coil, the thermostat, the permit, hauling the old equipment away, and the years of labor. A lower total that leaves off the coil or the permit isn’t lower. How to read an HVAC replacement estimate goes line by line.
  4. Reviews on every platform, not one site’s worth. Our HVAC contractor guide covers the rest, including insurance and the written contract.

Alexandria HVAC questions, answered straight

Does SwiftPro serve Alexandria, VA?

Yes, all of it. Alexandria is the town our heating and cooling crews work in more than any other, and we cover every Alexandria ZIP code: 22301, 22302, 22304, 22305 and 22314, mostly inside the City; 22303, 22306, 22307, 22308, 22309, 22310, 22312 and 22315 on the Fairfax County side; and 22311, which is split between them. Our Alexandria page lists every service with its price.

How much does a new HVAC system cost in Alexandria?

A furnace and air conditioner replaced together runs $8,898 to $23,000 installed. A furnace alone runs $4,285 to $14,040, and a heat pump system $8,499 to $21,650. From about $148 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Where you land depends on the size of the house, the efficiency you pick, and the ductwork and venting.

SwiftPro is based in Chantilly. Is that a problem in Alexandria?

No. The shop is in Chantilly, but the crews spend their days out on jobs, and Alexandria is where they work most. We’re there nearly every weekday, in the City and on the Fairfax County side.

Do I need a permit to replace my furnace in Alexandria?

For a gas furnace, yes, on either side of the line: Virginia’s residential code doesn’t exempt gas appliances from permits, even like for like. Inside the City, the City issues it. On the Fairfax County side the County does, and it requires a mechanical permit to replace any heating or cooling system. The mailing address won’t tell you which side you’re on.

Do you still work on boilers in Alexandria?

Yes. Inside the City we still work on boilers and radiators; on the Fairfax County side we rarely see one. Our Alexandria boiler page has the prices.

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

Under about eight years old, repair almost anything. Past about fourteen, a compressor, a heat exchanger or a reversing valve is replacement money. On a call like that, get the replacement price beside the repair price before you decide.

Why is SwiftPro’s Yelp rating lower than its Google rating?

Yelp is a small slice of our reviews, about one in twenty, and it filters hard. It’s our lowest score at 4.4, and we count it in our total anyway. Every platform’s number and the date it was read are on our reviews page.

Is SwiftPro licensed and insured?

Yes. Virginia Class A contractor license 2705192276, licensed and insured, BBB Accredited with an A rating. We’re a Trane Comfort Specialist, Carrier experts, a Rheem Pro Partner and a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor.

Can I pay for a new system monthly?

Yes. From about $148 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. Here’s how financing works.

Who is the best HVAC company in Alexandria?

The one that will put a repair price and a replacement price side by side, shows you its license and every review, and pulls the permit from the right office in its own name. Run the four checks above on anyone, us included.
