Written October 2026, with Reston’s Census figures, Fairfax County’s permit pages and every review platform read the same week.

A new furnace and air conditioner in Reston runs $8,898 to $23,000 installed, depending on the size of the house and the equipment you pick. From about $148 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. That number comes from the same price book we use in every Northern Virginia town, and it’s on our Reston furnace and AC page before anyone comes out.

Most of Reston was built between the 1960s and the 1990s, a lot of it as townhouses and condos, and it heats with gas or a heat pump in close to equal numbers. Below: how far we are from Reston and how often we’re there, what decides your price, what our reviews look like on every site including the low one, and what to check about any company before it touches your system.

If your heat or air is out right now, skip the reading and call (703) 997-9757. We run 24/7 emergency service.

How far we are from Reston, and how often we’re there

Our shop is on Lafayette Center Drive in Chantilly, about eight miles from the middle of Reston. Reston is one of the busiest towns on our schedule, and heating and cooling is a bigger share of our work there than in any other town we work in regularly. Duct cleaning is too.

The people who come out are ours: a dedicated heating and cooling team, separate from our plumbers. All three Reston ZIP codes, 20190, 20191 and 20194, are part of our regular area, and so are Herndon, Great Falls and Vienna next door, on the same price book. The Herndon guide and the Sterling guide cover those towns the same way.

Each service we do in Reston has its own page, and every one opens with the price: furnace and AC replacement, heat pump replacement, AC repair, furnace repair and air duct cleaning. The rest is on our Reston page.

What Reston houses run on

Reston was planned as one community starting in the 1960s, and the housing still shows it. About three in ten homes are townhouses and about a third are in condo and apartment buildings; detached houses are the smaller share. About three in four of homes went up between 1960 and 1999, and the median owner’s home dates from 1981 (Census: homes by type, year built, median year).

Heat splits close to evenly. Among owner-occupied homes, a little over half heat with gas and most of the rest with electricity, which in this climate almost always means a heat pump (Census, heating fuel).

That shapes a replacement more than the price tag does. In a townhouse or condo the indoor unit often lives in a closet, so the new one has to fit the space and the way in. A house still on its first ductwork may need a return or a transition fixed when the new system goes in. We look at both on the visit, and anything beyond a standard swap goes on the estimate as its own line with its own price. If yours is a heat pump, our Reston heat pump guide covers what’s normal in winter and what isn’t.

What a new system costs in Reston

These are installed prices from our price book for 2 to 5 ton systems, the same numbers our HVAC estimator works from. Where your house lands depends on three things: its size, the efficiency you pick, and what the ductwork and venting need.

The job Installed Or monthly
Furnace and AC replaced together $8,898 to $23,000 $148/mo at 0% APR for 60 months
Furnace alone, keeping your AC $4,285 to $14,040 $71/mo at 0% APR for 60 months
Heat pump system $8,499 to $21,650 $142/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

Monthly figures: 60mo @ 0% APR on each starting price, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. The lender sets the final terms.

The estimator gives your house its own number in about two minutes. Then one of our technicians measures, and the price is in writing before anything is ordered. Two years of our labor come with every install, and five or ten are available. Here’s how financing works.

Our reviews on every site, including the low one

Added up across every platform we’re on, we’re rated 5.0 stars across 1,132 reviews on Google, Angi, Yelp, the BBB and Facebook. That total includes our lowest score on purpose: Yelp, at 4.4 stars, which is about one in twenty of our reviews. Yelp filters hard, and it verified our contractor license on its own.

We’d rather you see our 4.4 than a row of perfect scores, because a row of perfect scores is a reason to look harder. Read the low ones before you decide; that’s what they’re for. The math, platform by platform with the date each was read, is at swiftproreviews.com, and the reviews themselves are on our reviews page.

What to check about any Reston HVAC company

  1. The license. Look the company up on DPOR’s License Lookup. The name should match your estimate, the license should be active, and it should cover HVAC. Ours is Virginia Class A 2705192276, printed on the side of our vans.
  2. The permit. Reston is in Fairfax County, which requires a mechanical permit to replace a heating or cooling system, and a gas furnace needs one even when it’s like for like. The county recommends the licensed contractor pull it, as the responsible party.
  3. Every line in writing. The AC’s size in tons and its SEER2 rating, the furnace’s size and efficiency, the coil, the thermostat, the permit, hauling the old equipment away, and how many years of labor come with it. A lower total that leaves off the coil or the permit isn’t lower. How to read an HVAC replacement estimate walks through each line.
  4. Reviews on every platform, not one site’s worth. Our HVAC contractor guide covers the rest, including insurance and the written contract.
