The codes
Daikin furnace, AC and mini
split codes, and what each means
Daikin has three kinds of codes: the furnace board, the outdoor unit and the ductless head. Find the model number on the rating plate, match it to a table, and write the code down before you reset anything: a reset clears it.
Daikin ComfortNet furnaces (DM97MC, DC97MC): the code on the board
The board shows a two-character code, and a ComfortNet thermostat prints the fault in words, shown here in capitals. Newer DR-series Daikin furnaces use a different board: go by the chart on the furnace door if it has one.
Daikin DM97MC and DC97MC furnace error codes| Code | What it means | What it usually takes |
|---|
| E0 | Lockout after too many tries to light (LOCKOUT) | Gas supply, igniter or flame sensor |
|---|
| E2 | Low stage pressure switch didn’t close (PS1 OPEN) | The venting, the drain or the inducer |
|---|
| E3 | High limit open (HIGH LIMIT OPEN) | Start with the filter and the airflow |
|---|
| E4 | Flame sensed when there shouldn’t be one (IMPROPER FLAME) | Shut the gas off and call |
|---|
| E5 | Open fuse | A short in the low-voltage wiring |
|---|
| E6 | Weak flame signal (WEAK FLAME) | Usually a flame sensor cleaning |
|---|
| EA | 115-volt polarity reversed (REVERSED PLTY) | A wiring fix |
|---|
| EC | Inducer motor drawing too much current (INDUCER FAULT) | The inducer motor |
|---|
| Ed | Manual reset rollout switch open (ROLLOUT OPEN) | Call: Daikin’s list of causes includes a damaged heat exchanger |
|---|
| EF | Auxiliary input open: the float switch tripped | A clogged condensate drain, usually |

Daikin ComfortNet outdoor units (DSXC and DSZC): the yellow light
These two-stage condensers and heat pumps blink a yellow light on the outdoor board, and a ComfortNet thermostat shows the fault with a two-digit code. Today’s inverter units (DC9VS, DH9VS, the Daikin FIT) use their own display, and we haven’t found Daikin’s public list for those, so we read them on site.
Daikin ComfortNet air conditioner and heat pump fault codes| Code | What it means | What it usually takes |
|---|
| 01 | Low side fault: low pressure lockout | Low refrigerant, which means a leak to find |
|---|
| 02 | High side fault: high pressure lockout | A blocked or dirty outdoor coil, first |
|---|
| 03 | Short cycling | The thermostat calling on and off |
|---|
| 04 | Locked rotor | The compressor, often seized |
|---|
| 05 | Open circuit | Power to the compressor cut off, or a failed compressor |
|---|
| 06 | Open start circuit | The compressor’s start winding or its wiring |
|---|
| 07 | Open run circuit | The compressor’s run winding or its wiring |
|---|
| 08 | Line voltage too low or too high | The power supply to the unit |
|---|
| 09 | Control voltage under 18 volts | The transformer or the low-voltage wiring |
|---|

Daikin ductless wall units (ATMOSPHERA, FTXM): the blinking light
The OPERATION lamp blinking about every half second means the unit is flagging a fault. The remote’s diagnosis mode finds the code: a long beep marks the right one. If the lamp blinks again after a reset, Daikin says to turn off the breaker and call.
Daikin mini split error codes, ATMOSPHERA wall units| Code | What it means | What it usually takes |
|---|
| U4 | Indoor and outdoor units lost communication | The wiring or a board between the two |
|---|
| U0 | Refrigerant shortage | A leak to find and fix |
|---|
| A1 | Indoor control board fault | A new indoor board |
|---|
| A5 | High pressure control or freeze-up protection | A clogged filter or dirty coil, first |
|---|
| A6 | Indoor fan motor fault | The fan motor, or a blower wheel that’s dragging |
|---|
| C4, C9 | An indoor temperature sensor failed | A sensor |
|---|
| E6 | The compressor won’t start | The outdoor unit: the compressor or its drive |
|---|
| E7 | Outdoor fan motor fault | Check for anything stuck in the fan, then the motor |
|---|
| F3 | Discharge pipe running too hot | A refrigerant or airflow problem at the outdoor unit |
|---|
| L5 | Output overcurrent | Make sure nothing blocks the outdoor unit’s air outlet, then call |
