Fujitsu mini split repair
in Northern Virginia

A Fujitsu mini split repair starts with the $99 diagnostic, and the repair is priced in writing before anything gets opened. If it’s past fixing, a new one-zone Mitsubishi Electric system is $7,000 to $10,000 installed. The blinking lamps on the indoor unit are a code, and the table below reads them.

What your Fujitsu mini split
is trying to tell you

What people describe on the phone, and what it usually turns out to be on a Fujitsu.

Water dripping from the indoor head

The head’s drain pan or line is clogged, or the unit was mounted without enough fall toward the drain. A dirty coil and blower wheel make it worse. It’s a cleaning and a drain fix, not a new unit.

Running, but barely heating or cooling

A clogged filter or blower wheel first, then a dirty outdoor coil, then refrigerant. Mini splits lose refrigerant at the flare fittings where the copper meets the unit, and a leak there gets found and fixed. Fujitsu’s own manual says clogged filters cut the airflow and make the unit louder, and it wants them cleaned every 2 weeks.

The outdoor unit isn’t running

Check the breaker and the disconnect. If they’re on, the indoor unit can’t talk to the outdoor one (a communication code), or the outdoor board or fan motor has failed.

A sour smell when it starts

Dust and moisture living on the coil and the blower wheel inside the head. A deep cleaning takes the wheel and coil back to metal.

Ice on the outdoor unit in winter

Frost that clears every hour or so is the unit defrosting, which is normal. Ice that keeps building, or water that refreezes under the unit, is a drain or a defrost problem.

The blinking lamps

Fujitsu mini split error codes
and what the flashes mean

A Fujitsu wall unit flashes its code on two lamps instead of printing it. The green OPERATION lamp gives the first digit, the orange TIMER lamp the second, and the green ECONOMY lamp flashes the whole time, so 4 flashes and then 1 is code 41. A wired remote shows the number.

ASU9, ASU12 and ASU15RLS3 wall units: the flash codes

Read from Fujitsu’s service instructions for these three models. Other Fujitsu lines have their own manuals, so match the model on your unit’s label first.

What it costs

What a Fujitsu repair
or a new system costs

A Fujitsu repair is priced after the $99 diagnostic, because the fix depends on the code and what we find. When it’s past fixing, a new Mitsubishi Electric system is a range we can print, by the number of rooms.

Diagnostic visit

$99

The code read, the fault found, the repair priced in writing.

One zone, installed

$7,000 to $10,000

or $117/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

A new Mitsubishi Electric: one outdoor unit, one head.

Two zones, installed

$11,000 to $15,000

or $183/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

A new Mitsubishi Electric: one outdoor unit, two heads.

Three zones, installed

$12,500 to $18,000

or $208/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

Monthly figures: 60mo @ 0% APR on each starting price, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. The lender sets the final terms. How financing works

Fix it or replace it

How old your Fujitsu is,
and when to stop fixing it

Fujitsu doesn’t publish a way to read the year from the serial number. It’ll tell you the warranty from it, though, and that’s the question that matters before a repair.

Fujitsu has a warranty lookup by serial number: type in the serial from the unit’s label and it shows what’s still covered. The install date itself is on the original invoice or the registration email.

The model number dates it roughly. Fujitsu lists the ASU12RLS3 as retired and still files its older warranties and downloads under the Halcyon name, so a Halcyon-era wall unit is an older system, on the warranty it was sold with.

  • Fix it when it’s a drain, a sensor, a fan motor, a board, or a refrigerant leak at a flare fitting. Each one is priced in writing before we start.
  • Think about replacing it when the compressor fails out of warranty, or when an older unit needs a big repair and the money is better spent on a new system with a new warranty.
  • One head acting up on a multi-zone system usually isn’t the whole system. We test the outdoor unit before anyone talks about replacing it.

Four zones, installed

$16,000 to $21,000

or $267/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

One outdoor unit, four indoor heads.

Ducted heat pump system

$8,499 to $21,650

or $142/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

Heat pump and air handler for the whole house.

When it’s done

When your Fujitsu is done,
here’s what we’d put in

When a Fujitsu is past fixing, we’d put a Mitsubishi Electric on the wall, and here’s why.

  • 12 years on parts and the compressor. Mitsubishi Electric gives that term only when a Diamond Contractor® installs the system and registers it within 90 days. We’re a Diamond Contractor®, and we register every system we install inside that window.
  • Heat on the coldest nights here. Mitsubishi Electric’s Hyper-Heating (H2i®) systems put out up to 100% of their heating capacity at 5°F and keep heating down to 13 below zero.
  • Trained by the maker. Mitsubishi Electric trains its Diamond Contractors® directly, through Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US, and lists them on its own contractor finder.
  • Not done yet? Then we fix the Fujitsu, and nobody brings up a new system until the repair stops making sense.

The warranty

Is your Fujitsu still
under warranty?

Maybe. It comes down to the model and whether it was registered. Here’s how Fujitsu’s works.

  • The current statement covers R-32 H and J Series systems, and 410A H and J Series installed before 2028: 5 years on parts and 7 on the compressor, from purchase or startup, whichever is later.
  • 10 years on both when the system is registered online within 60 days of the install.
  • 12 years on both only when one of Fujitsu’s own program contractors installs it and it’s registered in that window.
  • Older models stay on the statement they came with. The current one leaves out any model discontinued three or more years.
  • No labor, so even a covered part comes with a labor bill. A unit bought online gets no warranty at all.
  • It’s written to the original buyer, and it follows the house automatically only in Georgia, Texas and Florida.

Asked on the phone

Fujitsu questions,
answered straight

How much does a Fujitsu mini split repair cost?

The diagnostic is $99, and the repair is priced in writing after it, because a clogged drain and a failed inverter board are very different jobs. If it’s past fixing, a new one-zone Mitsubishi Electric system is $7,000 to $10,000 installed, two zones $11,000 to $15,000. From about $117 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. How financing works

Why are the lights on my Fujitsu mini split blinking?

It’s a fault code. On ASU RLS3 wall units, count the flashes: the green OPERATION lamp gives the first digit and the orange TIMER lamp the second, while ECONOMY flashes nonstop. 1 and 1 (code 11) means the indoor and outdoor units aren’t talking; 5 and 1 is the indoor fan motor. Fujitsu says to turn off the breaker and call. The OPERATION lamp blinking by itself in heat mode is defrost.

Is my Fujitsu broken if it stops in winter?

Probably not. In heat mode a Fujitsu stops to defrost its outdoor coil for up to 15 minutes, and the OPERATION lamp blinks while it does. If it’s still down after that, or the TIMER and ECONOMY lamps join in, it’s a fault code.

Do you repair Fujitsu mini splits?

Yes. A Fujitsu mini split moves refrigerant, reads its sensors and drains its water the way any mini split does, and Fujitsu publishes its codes in its own service manuals. Its manual also says there are no parts inside an owner should service, so it’s a job for a licensed technician either way.

Is my Fujitsu still under warranty?

Maybe. A model on Fujitsu’s current statement gets 5 years on parts and 7 on the compressor, or 10 on both if it was registered online within 60 days of the install. Older models stay on the statement they were sold with. Fujitsu’s warranty lookup checks yours by serial number, and labor is never covered.
