LG mini split repair
in Northern Virginia

An LG mini split repair starts with the $99 diagnostic, and the repair is priced in writing before anything gets opened. If it’s past fixing, a new one-zone Mitsubishi Electric system is $7,000 to $10,000 installed. The CH number on the display is a code, and the tables below say what it means.

What your LG mini split
is trying to tell you

What people describe on the phone, and what it usually turns out to be on an LG.

Water dripping from the indoor head

The head’s drain pan or line is clogged, or the unit was mounted without enough fall toward the drain. A dirty coil and blower wheel make it worse. It’s a cleaning and a drain fix, not a new unit. On an LG with a condensate pump, CH04 means the pump has stopped doing its job.

Running, but barely heating or cooling

A clogged filter or blower wheel first, then a dirty outdoor coil, then refrigerant. Mini splits lose refrigerant at the flare fittings where the copper meets the unit, and a leak there gets found and fixed.

The outdoor unit isn’t running

Check the breaker and the disconnect. If they’re on, the indoor unit can’t talk to the outdoor one (a communication code), or the outdoor board or fan motor has failed. On an LG multi-zone system, CH05 is that lost connection and CH67 a stuck outdoor fan.

A sour smell when it starts

Dust and moisture living on the coil and the blower wheel inside the head. A deep cleaning takes the wheel and coil back to metal.

Ice on the outdoor unit in winter

Frost that clears every hour or so is the unit defrosting, which is normal. Ice that keeps building, or water that refreezes under the unit, is a drain or a defrost problem.

The number on the display

LG mini split error codes
and what each one means

An LG shows its fault as a number, which LG writes as CH and the number, on the indoor unit’s display or the wired remote, and the outdoor board shows it too. Write the number down: it’s the first thing we’ll ask for.

LG Multi F multi-zone systems: the CH codes

Seven of them, in our own words, from LG’s multi-zone service manual. A single-zone LG has its own manual, so match the model on your unit’s label first.

Newer LG R-32 units: the refrigerant leak detector

LG units on R-32 refrigerant carry a leak detector, and it reports by number too.

What it costs

What an LG repair
or a new system costs

An LG repair is priced after the $99 diagnostic, because the fix depends on the code and what we find. When it’s past fixing, a new Mitsubishi Electric system is a range we can print, by the number of rooms.

Diagnostic visit

$99

The code read, the fault found, the repair priced in writing.

One zone, installed

$7,000 to $10,000

or $117/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

A new Mitsubishi Electric: one outdoor unit, one head.

Two zones, installed

$11,000 to $15,000

or $183/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

A new Mitsubishi Electric: one outdoor unit, two heads.

Three zones, installed

$12,500 to $18,000

or $208/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

A new Mitsubishi Electric: one outdoor unit, three heads.

Monthly figures: 60mo @ 0% APR on each starting price, the whole price financed, on approved credit. Longer plans lower the payment and cost more in total. The lender sets the final terms. How financing works

Fix it or replace it

How old your LG is,
and when to stop fixing it

LG publishes how to read the year from its serial number. Here’s the rule, and the catch.

LG’s own support pages say the serial number starts with three digits: the first is the year it was built, the next two the month. One digit can’t say which decade, so a serial starting 507 means July of 2015 or of 2025. The model number, or the install paperwork, settles it.

The date matters for the warranty. If nobody can show when the system started up, LG counts its 5 years on parts and 7 on the compressor from the day it was built, not the day it went in. Keep the invoice.

  • Fix it when it’s a drain pump, a sensor, a fan motor, a board, or a refrigerant leak at a flare fitting. Each one is priced in writing before we start.
  • Think about replacing it when the compressor fails out of warranty, or when an older unit needs a big repair and the money is better spent on a new system with a new warranty.
  • One head acting up on a Multi F system usually isn’t the whole system. We test the outdoor unit before anyone talks about replacing it.

Four zones, installed

$16,000 to $21,000

or $267/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

One outdoor unit, four indoor heads.

Ducted heat pump system

$8,499 to $21,650

or $142/mo at 0% APR for 60 months

When it’s done

When your LG is done,
here’s what we’d put in

When an LG is past fixing, we’d put a Mitsubishi Electric on the wall, and here’s why.

  • 12 years on parts and the compressor. Mitsubishi Electric gives that term only when a Diamond Contractor® installs the system and registers it within 90 days. We’re a Diamond Contractor®, and we register every system we install inside that window.
  • Heat on the coldest nights here. Mitsubishi Electric’s Hyper-Heating (H2i®) systems put out up to 100% of their heating capacity at 5°F and keep heating down to 13 below zero.
  • Trained by the maker. Mitsubishi Electric trains its Diamond Contractors® directly, through Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US, and lists them on its own contractor finder.
  • Not done yet? Then we fix the LG, and nobody brings up a new system until the repair stops making sense.

The warranty

Is your LG still
under warranty?

Maybe. It comes down to who installed it, whether it was registered, and how fast you file. Here’s how LG’s works.

  • The current statement (R-32 systems, December 2025): 5 years on parts, the compressor included, plus 2 more years on the compressor.
  • 10 years on both when an LG-trained installer put it in and it was registered at lghvac.com within 60 days of startup.
  • Even the base 5 years expects a trained installer: LG writes it for a system put in by someone who finished LG’s product training and holds an HVAC license where one’s required.
  • File fast. LG wants a warranty claim within 30 days of when the problem is found, so don’t let a code sit.
  • No labor, so even a covered part comes with a labor bill.
  • It stays with the original buyer, at the address where it was installed.

Asked on the phone

LG mini split questions,
answered straight

How much does an LG mini split repair cost?

The diagnostic is $99, and the repair is priced in writing after it, because a clogged drain pump and a failed inverter board are very different jobs. If it’s past fixing, a new one-zone Mitsubishi Electric system is $7,000 to $10,000 installed, two zones $11,000 to $15,000. From about $117 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. How financing works

What does CH05 mean on my LG mini split?

On an LG multi-zone system, CH05 means the indoor unit isn’t hearing from the outdoor unit: the wiring between them, a board, or an outdoor unit with no power. Check the breaker and the outdoor disconnect first. If they’re on, it’s a service call.

My LG shows 228, 229 or 230. What do I do?

Open the windows, air the room out, and call right away: (703) 997-9757, 24/7. On newer R-32 LG units those numbers come from the refrigerant leak detector, and LG says to ventilate and get a technician immediately. A 236 is calmer: the detector has less than 6 months of life left.

Is my LG mini split still under warranty?

Maybe. LG’s current statement gives 5 years on parts, compressor included, and 2 more on the compressor; 10 on both when an LG-trained installer put it in and it was registered within 60 days of startup. Without proof of startup, the clock started on the manufacture date. File fast: LG wants a claim within 30 days of finding the problem, and labor isn’t covered.

Do you repair LG mini splits?

Yes. An LG mini split moves refrigerant, reads its sensors and drains its water the way any mini split does, and LG prints its codes in its own manuals, which is where the tables on this page come from. When one’s past fixing, we’d put in a Mitsubishi Electric.
