An after-hours plumbing visit is $250, and a person answers the phone around the clock. In regular hours the same visit is $49, and the repair is priced in writing before any work starts.
Tell us what it’s doing. If it can safely wait until morning, we’ll tell you so.

Water where it shouldn’t be
What to do in the next five minutes
Do these in order, before you call anyone. Every minute the water stays on is more ceiling, floor and drywall.
Close the main shutoff. It’s where the water line comes into the house, usually on a basement or crawl space wall near the water meter, or beside the water heater. A round handle turns clockwise until it stops. A lever turns a quarter turn, until it sits across the pipe.
Open the lowest faucet in the house. A basement sink or a laundry tub. It drains what’s left in the pipes and takes the pressure off the leak.
Keep water away from electricity. If water is reaching an outlet, the panel or an appliance, and you can reach a dry breaker without standing in water, switch it off. If you’d have to stand in water to reach it, stay out of that room.
Call, and say what you’ve already shut off. A person answers, day or night. What’s leaking, where, and which valves you closed tells the plumber what to bring.

Now, or in the morning
What can’t wait, and what can wait until morning
The after-hours visit is $250. The same visit in the morning is $49. So it’s worth a minute to know which one you have, and if you’re not sure, call and ask. If it can safely wait until morning, we’ll tell you so.

What an emergency plumber costs after hours

Often same-day, and we will tell you honestly when we can get there.
1
A person answers
Day or night. Tell us what’s happening and what you’ve shut off, and you get a straight answer on when a plumber can be there.
2
The visit, $250 after hours
The plumber finds what failed and why, and what it will take to fix it.
3
The price, in writing

4

The repair, then the water back on and everything checked before the plumber leaves.
The usual emergencies
Common plumbing emergencies, and what each one needs
What to do for each one until the plumber gets there, and what the repair runs.
A burst or leaking pipe
Close the main, open the lowest faucet, and get what you can out of the water’s way.
Pipes that freeze in a cold snap tend to split where they run along an outside wall, in a crawl space or over a garage. The plumber cuts out the failed section and replaces it, and you see the price before anything else gets opened up. What to do with a burst pipe.
A sewer backup
Stop using water everywhere in the house, the washer and dishwasher included. Whatever goes down comes up at the lowest drain.
Sewage at a basement floor drain, tub or toilet means the main sewer line, the one pipe carrying the whole house to the street. Clearing it runs $550 to $1,650, and a sewer camera shows you why it blocked. Drain and sewer line prices.
No hot water, or a leaking water heater
No hot water and no leak can wait until morning (what to check first). Water coming out of the tank can’t.
Close the cold water valve on top of the tank, then turn the gas control to off, or switch off the breaker on an electric one. A tank leaking from the bottom is finished, and a new water heater runs $2,750 to $10,500 (water heater prices). From about $46 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. How financing works.
A sump pump that quits in a storm
Check that it’s plugged in, that its breaker hasn’t tripped, and that the float isn’t stuck against the side of the pit.
If the pump is dead, a new one in the pit you have is $697 installed. If it only needs a repair, that’s on sump pump repair.
An ejector pump alarm
Stop using the basement bathroom, the laundry and any sink that drains to the pump.
The alarm means the basin is filling and the pump isn’t emptying it. Keep sending water down there and it backs up into the basement fixtures. Sewage ejector pumps.
A gas smell
Leave first. Get everyone out, don’t flip a switch or light anything, and call 911 or Washington Gas at 844-927-4427 from outside.
Once the utility has made it safe, our plumbers find and fix the leak on your side of the meter. Gas line repair.

Emergency plumbing calls, in our customers’ words
★★★★★
I placed an emergency call for pipes that had frozen and burst in my bathroom in the very early morning. … I had Xavi out that same morning and he did an excellent job fixing all 3 burst pipes and making sure everything was in working order before leaving. … Prices were very reasonable and I would absolutely use this company again!

Our water heater died on Friday night around 7:30pm. We called SwiftPro, and by 10pm we had quotes, a phone call explaining the options, followed by a signed contract and an appointment to have a new one installed Saturday morning.…

…I had a pipe bust in my kitchen and had to turn off the water to the whole house. … Justin was thorough polite and explained everything that needed to be done. … Price was fair, though I did have to pay extra for the emergency/after hours service, which is to be expected

How much does an emergency plumber cost in Northern Virginia?
An after-hours plumbing visit is $250, and the same visit during regular hours is $49. The plumber finds what failed, and the repair is priced on top, in writing, before any work starts.
Is a plumber really available 24/7?
Yes. We answer the phone around the clock, and you get a person. If water is running that you can’t stop, say that first.
How fast can an emergency plumber get here?
Often same-day, and we will tell you honestly when we can get there. Tell us what’s happening when you call, and you’ll know when to expect us before you hang up.
Should I pay for after hours, or can it wait until morning?
Call now for water you can’t stop, sewage coming up a drain, a water heater leaking from the tank, or a sump pump that’s quit in a storm. No hot water with no leak, one clogged toilet in a house with two, or a slow drip under a sink can wait for the $49 visit in the morning. Not sure? Call and ask. If it can safely wait, we’ll tell you so.
Where is my main water shutoff?
Where the water line comes into the house, usually on a basement or crawl space wall near the water meter, or beside the water heater. In a townhouse or condo, look in the utility closet with the water heater. A round handle closes clockwise, and a lever is closed when it sits across the pipe.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Get everyone out, don’t flip a switch or light anything, and call 911 or Washington Gas at 844-927-4427 from outside. Once the utility has made it safe, we repair the gas line on your side of the meter.
Do you cover plumbing emergencies in Ashburn and Loudoun County?
Yes. The shop is in Chantilly, we have an office in Ashburn, and our plumbers work across Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington and Fauquier counties.
Are your emergency plumbers subcontractors?
No. Every plumber who comes to your house works for SwiftPro and drives a SwiftPro truck, under our Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192276.
