What’s different in Aldie

Aldie’s water comes from three different places, and the flush plan follows yours.

Most homes in 20105 are on Loudoun Water. Stone Ridge’s association lists it, and Loudoun Water says its central system serves the suburban part of the county, which is where the new subdivisions are. Loudoun Water doesn’t publish a hardness figure for itself. Its water quality page sends you to Corbalis, the Potomac plant Fairfax Water runs, which tested between 4.1 and 10.8 grains a gallon over 2025: softest in May, hardest in November.

The old village along Route 50 is different. Loudoun’s 2019 General Plan says Aldie is the only one of the county’s rural villages served by a private water company, so the hardness that counts there is on that company’s report, not Loudoun Water’s. And on the farm lots past the village, Loudoun Water itself says most rural properties run on their own wells. A well has no report at all; a hardness test is the only way to set a schedule.

On Loudoun Water the arithmetic is short. Navien’s manual calls for a yearly descale on its tankless units above 4 grains without a softener, and even Corbalis’s softest month cleared that. So in the subdivisions, a tankless gets descaled every year and a tank gets flushed every year, newer house or not.

Age is the other half. Stone Ridge’s median owner home was built in 2009, so a tank that came with one is about seventeen. On a tank that old with no flush history, the drain valve itself may not close tight again, so the label gets read before any valve gets opened, and you hear whether a flush is worth the money or the next heater is. Across all of 20105 the median owner home is from 2013, which puts plenty of tanks right at the age when a yearly flush and an anode check do the most good.

What it costs

What a water heater flush costs in Aldie.

Same prices as our water heater flush page, anywhere in Northern Virginia, and you pay after the visit.

  • Tank water heater flush, with the plumbing check$99, normally $199
  • Tankless descale, with the plumbing check$300, regularly $350
  • Comfort+ membership, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection every year included$199 a year

Both visits include a whole-home plumbing check: supply lines, shutoffs, a pressure reading, drains, toilets and traps.

One per household, owner-occupied homes, limited time. A leaking tank, or one that’s 15 years old, needs repair or replacement, not a flush.

More for the money: Comfort+ membership, $199 a year, includes the flush and its plumbing check every year, plus a sewer camera inspection, a dryer vent cleaning and heating and cooling maintenance visits.

When it’s due

Why people in Aldie book a flush.

It pops or rumbles

That’s water boiling under a layer of sediment on the bottom of the tank. A flush clears it out.

Nobody knows when it was last done

Which is most houses. The drain valve at the bottom of the tank has usually never been opened.

The tankless throws a code

E016 or E030 on a Navien, LC on a Rinnai. Scale in the heat exchanger is the usual reason, and a descale is the fix.

Choosing who does it

How to pick who flushes your water heater in Aldie.

Questions worth asking anybody you call, us included.

  1. Do they ask where your water comes from?

In 20105 it can be Loudoun Water, the village’s water company or a well, and each has its own hardness. A schedule set without asking is a guess.

  2. Do they check the anode rod and test the relief valve?

The anode is the part that corrodes so the tank doesn’t, and the relief valve is the tank’s safety valve. A flush that skips both is just draining water.

  3. On a tankless, do they pump descaler through it?

A real descale isolates the heater at its service valves and pumps solution through the heat exchanger, then rinses it and cleans the inlet screen.

Questions

Water heater flush questions from Aldie.

Which hardness number fits my Aldie house?

It’s the figure from your own water supplier. Loudoun Water customers go by Corbalis: between 4.1 and 10.8 grains a gallon over 2025. In the old village, the private water company’s report applies. On a well, nobody publishes one, so test it.

My house is on a well. Is a flush still worth it?

Yes. Groundwater can carry sand and minerals that settle in a tank faster than treated water does, so a well house often needs the flush more, not less. We don’t work on the well itself. We flush the heater, check the anode and the relief valve, and let you see what drained out.

How much does a water heater flush cost in Aldie?

$99 right now for a tank, normally $199, with a whole-home plumbing check. A tankless descale is $300 right now, regularly $350. Comfort+ membership, $199 a year, includes the flush every year.
