A young shower that drips
On a house this new, a drip after the handle is off is usually one cartridge, not a failing valve. The tell is that it started suddenly, with no stiffness before.

What’s different in Aldie
Check the easy thing for a loose handle: a small set screw on the handle that has backed out. On a shower this young the grip inside is rarely worn, so a snug screw often ends it. If the handle still turns without changing the water, we look at the cartridge stem. That’s less common here than in older houses, and when it happens it’s a quick part.
Nearly all of the homes in ZIP 20105, Stone Ridge included, went up in 2000 or later, and the typical owner home is from 2013. A valve that young should run for decades, so a shower that has begun to drip is telling you something. It may be a seal that failed early, or grit from the supply line that got into the cartridge. Replacing that cartridge is a short job, and it comes out through the front of the wall.
About six homes in ten are detached and three in ten are townhouses. In a newer townhouse the shower is on the second floor over a finished room, and a weeping valve behind the trim can run for a long time before it shows. Dry the trim plate with a towel after you use it. If it is wet again after a few showers, call.
Stone Ridge has several condo communities, Amber Springs, Centre Park, Mercer Park, Stone Mill Corner, Stone Springs and Summerwalk among them, and each has its own management company. If you live in one, call management before a cartridge swap, because the shutoff for your bath may be on a line that serves other units, and they may need to schedule it.

The signs
On a house this new, a drip after the handle is off is usually one cartridge, not a failing valve. The tell is that it started suddenly, with no stiffness before.
Usually a set screw under the cap that backed out, or worn teeth where the handle grips the cartridge. Tightening the screw only lasts if the teeth are still good.
On a single-handle shower that’s the cartridge. On an older two-handle or three-handle shower, it’s the washers or the stems. Either one comes out the front, and the wall stays closed.

Choosing who does it
Questions to ask anybody who pulls your shower handle off, us included.
If a house built in the same year with the same valves has one failing, the others may follow. A good plumber looks at the brand and tells you whether to expect more.
Most loose handles and drips are a cartridge or a screw. A plumber who prices a new valve without looking inside first may be selling you a wall you didn’t need opened.
A shower that runs fine on its own can still jump hot when someone flushes. Ask them to run it both ways before they pack up.

Questions
It isn’t common, but it happens. A cartridge seal can fail early, or a bit of grit from the line can hold it open. Replacing the cartridge is a $250 to $450 job, and we show you the old one.
Your management company, for the shutoff and the schedule. The cartridge and the handle inside your unit are usually yours to repair. Read your documents to be sure.
Most shower valve repairs we do run $250 to $450, with the visit at $49, $250 after hours. A whole new valve with trim runs $950 to $1,400, and a tub spout runs $200 to $400.
Not for a cartridge, a handle or a diverter. Those come out the front. A valve replacement goes in from an access panel when there is one, and when there isn’t, a larger trim plate can usually cover the opening so the tile stays.
