In Arlington, the ductwork is usually younger than the house.
The median owner-occupied home in Arlington went up in 1960, and plenty are older: Craftsman bungalows and four-squares in Maywood, 1920s and 30s houses in Ashton Heights and Lyon Village, Cape Cods in Maywood and Cherrydale. Few houses of that age were built with central air. If yours has it, the ductwork came later, fitted into closets, attics and the knee walls behind a Cape Cod’s upstairs bedrooms, often a mix of old sheet metal and newer flex.
So two Arlington houses on the same street can be completely different jobs. A run that turns three corners to reach a dormer bedroom, or a return cut into a closet floor, changes how long it takes and what it needs, and the camera photos show you which kind of system you have before you pay for anything.
Fairlington is its own case. Its 3,449 garden apartments and townhouses went up from 1942 to 1944, and central heat and air conditioning heat pumps went in when they were sold as condos in the 1970s. Any ductwork in a Fairlington unit is a 1970s addition or newer, a generation younger than the brick around it.
The towers by the Metro are the other end of it. More than half of Arlington’s homes are in buildings of ten units or more, where the system is a small air handler or fan coil serving one unit. If the dryer vent in your building runs to a shared shaft, that part is usually the association’s, and we’ll tell you what we see in it.

What duct cleaning costs in Arlington.
The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.

A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.
The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When duct cleaning is worth it in Arlington.
A tenant just moved out
Close to six in ten Arlington homes are rented. Between leases the rooms are empty and nothing is pushed against the registers, which makes it the easiest week to see what’s inside the ducts and clean them.
Nobody remembers the last time
Which is most houses. Nobody opens a duct, so it never comes up until somebody looks.
You just finished a renovation
Drywall dust goes wherever the air goes, and the system was running while they sanded.

How to pick the best duct cleaning company in Arlington.
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.
Can they reach ducts that were added after the house was built?
In a 1920s or 30s Arlington house the ducts take odd routes, through closets and knee walls and up from the basement. Ask how they’ll get at the runs to the top floor, not just the registers you can see.
Do they look before they quote?
Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.
Do they clean the returns, or only the supply vents?
The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.
Is the price for the whole system, in writing?
Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.
What our customers say.
Aaron Kwon came to clean the air ducts, and he was great. He was thorough and careful and extremely polite–just a nice fellow. The office staff at SwiftPro is also wonderful. I am grateful for their splendid service.

Duct cleaning questions from Arlington.
Do you clean ducts in Fairlington?
Yes. Fairlington’s systems went in during the 1970s condo conversion or later, so the system belongs to the unit, separate from the building. Tell us whether you’re in a garden apartment or a townhouse when you book, and whether the air handler is in a closet or the attic.
Is my 1920s Arlington house worth a duct cleaning?
Sometimes very much, sometimes not at all, and the photos decide it. Old sheet metal that has been moving air for decades can be furred over, while a flex run added ten years ago may look fine. We photograph both and tell you which is which before you spend anything.
Can you clean the ducts upstairs in a Cape Cod?
Yes. In a 1930s or 40s Cape Cod the upstairs runs usually climb through a closet or hide behind the knee walls, so we photograph them from the registers and, where there’s a hatch, from behind the knee wall. If the upstairs has its own small system in the attic, it gets cleaned as a second system.
How much does air duct cleaning cost in Arlington?
$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. A dryer vent is $298 on its own or $199 added to a duct cleaning.
Is it worth it?
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
