Most Springfield ductwork is older than the furnace it serves.
Six in ten Springfield homes were built before 1980, and in a lot of them the furnace has been swapped two or three times while the ductwork stayed put. North Springfield is the oldest corner, about two thirds of it built before 1960, and Kings Park is nearly all 1960s and 70s. Galvanized trunks and runs that age have carried air through every season since the house went up.
A lot of those older houses heat through registers in the floor rather than the wall or the ceiling, and a floor register catches whatever drops in: pet hair, cereal, a stray toy, the grit off everybody’s shoes. When we lift a cover in a Kings Park or North Springfield house, the first couple of feet below it usually tell us how the rest of the system looks. Finished basements are the other pattern here: once a 1960s basement is drywalled, the main trunk often vanishes into a soffit, so working out how to reach it comes first.
West Springfield and Newington Forest are a different job. About four in ten West Springfield homes and half of Newington Forest’s are townhouses, and in Newington Forest three in four owners heat with electricity. A heat pump’s blower runs in long, slow cycles through the winter as well as the summer, so the filter loads up quicker there, and so does the return side of the ductwork.
Springfield proper, along Backlick and Old Keene Mill Roads, has most of the town’s condos, about a quarter of its homes, and a third of them are rented. In a condo, the job is the unit’s own air handler and runs. In a rental, the easy window is between tenants, when the registers aren’t under a couch and the last tenant’s dog has moved out too.

What duct cleaning costs in Springfield.
The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.

A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.
The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When duct cleaning is worth it in Springfield.
The furnace is new, the ducts aren’t
If the furnace was replaced in the last few years and nobody looked at the ducts, the new blower is pushing air through the same metal the old one did for decades. That’s a sensible moment for the camera photos.
Nobody remembers the last time
Which is most houses. Nobody opens a duct, so it never comes up until somebody looks.
You just finished a renovation
Drywall dust goes wherever the air goes, and the system was running while they sanded.
What the county says about dryer vents.
Fairfax County
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue tells every household to clean the lint out of the dryer vent pipe once a year, sooner if clothes are taking longer to dry, and to have a gas dryer checked by a professional. Source.
How to pick the best duct cleaning company in Springfield.
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.
Will they clean the boots under the floor registers?
The boot is the short elbow of duct right under each floor register, and in older Springfield houses it’s where the debris piles up. A cleaning that vacuums the grille and skips the boot leaves the worst of it behind.
Do they look before they quote?
Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.
Do they clean the returns, or only the supply vents?
The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.
Is the price for the whole system, in writing?
Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.
What our customers say.
Aaron is great ! He explained to me about how they clean the dryer vent, he replaced my old one with a flex type vent duct, he showed me the camera he used to see into the dryer vent. Very professional answered all my questions . Definitely 10 out of 10.

Duct cleaning questions from Springfield.
Is duct cleaning worth it in a 1960s Kings Park house?
It can be, because in a house that age the system may not have been opened in years. The camera photos decide it: if the trunk and the boots under the floor registers are coated, cleaning gets that out of the air path, and if the metal looks good we’ll say so and tell you to keep up with the filter.
Do Newington Forest townhouses need a different duct cleaning?
Same cleaning, different equipment. Most Newington Forest owners heat with electricity, so the system there is usually a heat pump with an indoor air handler rather than a furnace. Let us know where yours lives, a hall closet, the attic, the basement, so we bring what reaching it takes. Same price book as everywhere else in Springfield.
Does a Springfield condo need its own duct cleaning?
If the system serves only your unit, it’s usually yours to keep up; your condo documents settle it. It’s a smaller system, so a shorter visit than a house, and anything the building shares we photograph and point you to the association for.
How much does air duct cleaning cost in Springfield?
$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. A dryer vent is $298 on its own or $199 added to a duct cleaning.
Is it worth it?
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
