Ducts fitted into century-old frames in town, heat pump systems across the rest of 20198.
Close to half the buildings in The Plains Historic District went up between 1900 and 1930, and the state’s survey found balloon framing the usual way they were built, many finished in stucco. Nobody planned those houses around a duct. When central heat and air came, the trunk usually went into the attic or the cellar, and the branches found their way down through closets and wall cavities. So in town the camera has more ground to cover: long runs with odd turns, and returns cut in wherever a grille would fit.
Plenty of the town’s roofs are standing-seam metal, and the attic under one gets hot. The NOAA normals from Warrenton, 12 miles south, count about 21 afternoons a year at 90 degrees or more. Flexible duct that has baked through decades of summers up there goes brittle and can crush or split, so our tech photographs the attic runs before anybody brushes them, and cleans them with a gentler tool than sheet metal gets.
Past the town limits, ZIP 20198 is mostly detached houses on big lots, the typical owner’s home built in 1983, and about six owners in ten heat with electricity, which out here usually means a heat pump. The same station counts about 4,700 heating degree days a year against roughly 1,000 cooling degree days, so a heat pump’s blower does most of its running through the cold months. That’s when the returns load up, and spring, once the heat is off, is the sensible time to have them looked at.
About a quarter of the ZIP’s owners heat with propane, usually a furnace with the air conditioner’s coil sitting on top of it. Whichever you have, each system is photographed and priced on its own line. If the dryer vent cleaning should happen on the same visit, it’s $199 added on.

What duct cleaning costs in The Plains.
The same price book as our air duct cleaning page, for a home up to 2,000 square feet on one system. We look first: the tech takes a cover off, puts a camera in and photographs what’s in your ducts, then shows you, so you see their current condition before you decide. No charge, including when yours are fine. Then you get the price in writing, then we clean.
- Return Air Duct Cleaning$298
- Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning$598, regularly $798
- Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning with ActivePure Air Scrubber$1,798
- Dryer Vent Cleaning, on its own$298

A second system bills at 90 percent of the tier, because it’s isolated and cleaned on its own. The calculator on our air duct cleaning page does the arithmetic for a bigger house.
The dryer vent cleaning is the yearly one, and it’s in Comfort+ membership at $199 a year along with a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
When duct cleaning is worth it in The Plains.
One upstairs room gets weak air
In a town house whose ducts were added in the attic, a run that’s been stepped on, crushed or pulled loose from its fitting starves the room it feeds. The camera finds it, and that’s a repair to price before any cleaning.
Nobody remembers the last time
Which is most houses. Nobody opens a duct, so it never comes up until somebody looks.
You just bought the place
You don’t know whether the last owners had three cats or ever took a register cover off. Most new owners want it done once, early, so they know what they’re starting with.
How to pick the best duct cleaning company in The Plains.
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you, us included.
Do they know their way around a house older than ductwork?
In a balloon-framed house from 1910 the runs can hide in wall cavities and knee walls. Ask whether they’ll find and photograph every run, the attic ones included, rather than cleaning the registers they can see and calling it done.
Do they look before they quote?
Ask whether they’ll put a camera in and show you photos of what’s inside first. A price given at the door, sight unseen, is a price for the average house, not yours.
Do they clean the returns, or only the supply vents?
The returns are the big grilles that pull air back to the system, and they’re the side that collects dust. A job that only counts supply registers leaves half the system alone.
Is the price for the whole system, in writing?
Ask what it covers: every supply and return, the main trunk, the blower compartment. The $59 mailbox coupon covers getting somebody into the attic.
What our customers say.
Aaron Kwon came to clean the air ducts, and he was great. He was thorough and careful and extremely polite–just a nice fellow. The office staff at SwiftPro is also wonderful. I am grateful for their splendid service.

Duct cleaning questions from The Plains.
Will the tech need to get into my attic?
In most of the older houses in town, yes, because that’s where the ductwork was added. Clear a path to the hatch or the pull-down stairs before the visit, and tell us if the only way up is through a closet ceiling. In the newer houses out past the town limits, the main trunk is more often in the basement.
How much does air duct cleaning cost in The Plains?
$598 for Whole Home Air Duct Cleaning, regularly $798, on a home up to 2,000 square feet with one system, $298 for Return Air Duct Cleaning, and $1,798 with an ActivePure air scrubber installed. A dryer vent is $298 on its own or $199 added to a duct cleaning.
Is it worth it?
Sometimes, and the camera photos are how you find out. If the duct walls are furred over, cleaning takes that out of the loop your air runs through, and the before and after are obvious. If the metal is clean, it isn’t worth doing and we’ll say so. The EPA’s position is that routine cleaning hasn’t been shown to prevent health problems, so we don’t sell it that way.
