Everything drains slowly after a wet spell
If the whole house goes sluggish in wet weather, check the floor drain and the laundry first. Water coming up the lowest opening means the line is struggling, and it’s worth clearing before the next storm.

What it costs
Where the clog sits decides the price. A sink, tub or shower drain is one fixture. When every drain in the house is slow or water comes up the lowest one, it’s the main line, and that’s a bigger machine and a longer run.

If the main line clogs again inside a year, or the cable comes back with roots, a camera look for $89 on the same visit tells you whether it’s a clog or a broken pipe. We show you the picture either way.
Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
What’s different in Calverton
Calverton’s historic district has 69 buildings that count, and more than half went up between 1920 and 1960, mostly plain two-story frame houses along Bristersburg Road between Route 28 and Old Calverton Road. A house from those decades usually has cast iron or galvanized steel inside the walls, and both rough up inside as they age. The first sign is a kitchen sink that clears, then slows again within a month.
When the cable comes back from one of those lines, there’s often rust flake and a ring of grease on it. We run it again with the bigger cutting head if the first pass leaves the pipe narrow. If the pipe is so scaled that clearing only buys a few weeks, we’ll say so, and we’ll show you what’s on the cutter so you can see for yourself.
Near Route 28 the houses are closer together, about three to the acre by the County’s count, and newer, so the drains are PVC and the clogs are what went down them. A bathroom sink full of hair and toothpaste grit, a tub with soap scum packed around the stopper, a laundry line choked with lint: those are quick jobs.
A floodplain cuts through the middle of the village, and Bastable Mill Road has closed to high water four times between 2014 and 2024. After a week like that, basement floor drains and the laundry standpipe are the first to back up, and a drain that was fine in August can be slow in March. If yours does that every spring, tell us when it happens.
By the numbers
From the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey, owner-occupied homes unless it says otherwise.
Calverton’s own ZIP, 20138, is post office boxes only, so the Census Bureau maps no area for it. These are ZIP 20119 as a whole, the Catlett ZIP area that holds nearly nine in ten of the Calverton Census place’s homes.
Which clog it is
If the whole house goes sluggish in wet weather, check the floor drain and the laundry first. Water coming up the lowest opening means the line is struggling, and it’s worth clearing before the next storm.
If the kitchen sink backs up but the bathroom drains fine, the clog is in that branch, usually grease or food in the kitchen, hair and soap in a tub. That’s a one-fixture clearing.
When the washer drains and water shows up in a basement shower or floor drain, or flushing a toilet bubbles the tub, the clog is past the branches in the main line. Stop running water until it’s cleared.

Choosing who clears it
Questions to ask anybody who offers to clear a drain, us included.
A cable that suits PVC can skid over scale in a 1930s iron line and leave it narrow. Ask whether the crew carries different heads and will change to one that fits the pipe instead of just running the same one twice.
You should hear whether it’s a one-drain clearing or the main line, and the price for it, before anybody feeds a cable in. A price that shows up after the work is a bad sign.
A clear drain doesn’t need a bottle of anything, and a single clog is not a reason to dig. If someone jumps to replacing the sewer line without a camera picture, get a second look.

On July 3, I called to have a clogged floor drain cleared. Thankfully they arrived on July 4th which was greatly appreciated. No one else would come out do to the holiday. Thank you
Questions
In an older house the pipe wall is rough with rust and old grease, and new grease catches on it fast. Clearing opens the middle, but the roughness stays. If it keeps happening, a camera look tells you whether the line needs more than a cable.
Not usually. A floor drain is the lowest opening in the house, so it fills when the main run is blocked, and the sink is only one branch. We start at the floor drain or laundry standpipe and work toward the clog.
One clogged sink, tub or shower drain is $200 to $800. A main line backing up into the house is $550 to $1,650. Where the clog is and how far down it sits moves the number inside that range.
Better not. The strong ones can sit in the trap, damage older pipe, and splash back on whoever opens the drain next. Try a plunger on a sink or tub, and if that doesn’t move it, call.
