The tub is the first thing to fill
No basement, no floor drain. In these houses the lowest tub or shower is where a main-line clog announces itself, with water rising around the drain when the washer or a toilet empties.

What it costs
Where the clog sits decides the price. A sink, tub or shower drain is one fixture. When every drain in the house is slow or water comes up the lowest one, it’s the main line, and that’s a bigger machine and a longer run.

If the main line clogs again inside a year, or the cable comes back with roots, a camera look for $89 on the same visit tells you whether it’s a clog or a broken pipe. We show you the picture either way.
Comfort+ membership is $199 a year for four visits: a dryer vent cleaning, a water heater flush with a sewer camera inspection, a heating maintenance visit and a cooling maintenance visit.
What’s different in Casanova
The village began as Three Mile Station on the railroad, and its historic houses, about ten of them from roughly 1880 to 1910, are mostly I-houses: two stories, one room deep, with a rear wing. That wing is where the kitchen usually ended up, which puts the sink at the far end of the longest drain in the house. Kitchen clogs in a house shaped like that start at the wing and back up toward the front.
The state’s survey of the village mentions a bathroom added onto the side of one of these houses. That’s the story all over town: a bathroom tacked on in the last century and joined to the old drain at an angle. Those joints catch hair and paper. We clear the run from the nearest fixture, and when the cable snags at the join we say where along the wall it is.
The County’s village plan notes that rock sits shallow in places around Casanova and limits basements. A house on a slab or over a crawl space has no floor drain to fill, so a stopped line shows up at the lowest tub or shower instead, with gray water standing around your ankles. If that’s the first sign, stop the washer and call before the next load.
Water also moves around in this part of Fauquier. A flash flood on July 16, 2025, put a foot of water across Balls Mill Road, and a week of heavy rain can leave the ground soggy for days. If your drains slow down after storms and come back by themselves a few days later, that pattern is worth mentioning, because it tells us where to look.
By the numbers
From the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey, owner-occupied homes unless it says otherwise.
Casanova’s own ZIP, 20139, is post office boxes only, so the Census Bureau maps no area for it. These are ZIP 20119 as a whole, the Catlett ZIP area Casanova sits in.
Which clog it is
No basement, no floor drain. In these houses the lowest tub or shower is where a main-line clog announces itself, with water rising around the drain when the washer or a toilet empties.
If the kitchen sink backs up but the bathroom drains fine, the clog is in that branch, usually grease or food in the kitchen, hair and soap in a tub. That’s a one-fixture clearing.
When the washer drains and water shows up in a basement shower or floor drain, or flushing a toilet bubbles the tub, the clog is past the branches in the main line. Stop running water until it’s cleared.

Choosing who clears it
Questions to ask anybody who offers to clear a drain, us included.
In an I-house with a back wing, the kitchen drain can be the longest run in the building. A crew that asks where the sink is relative to the cleanout is planning the cable’s route, and that saves you a second visit.
You should hear whether it’s a one-drain clearing or the main line, and the price for it, before anybody feeds a cable in. A price that shows up after the work is a bad sign.
A clear drain doesn’t need a bottle of anything, and a single clog is not a reason to dig. If someone jumps to replacing the sewer line without a camera picture, get a second look.

Plumber showed up on time and fixed my drain clog without issue. Very reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended.
Questions
Probably, yes. Without a floor drain, the tub is the lowest opening, and it gurgles when the main run is partly blocked and the washer’s water has nowhere to go. Stop the washer until it’s cleared.
Usually, yes. A cable clears most clogs even in old pipe. If the line is cast iron that’s scaled over, we’ll tell you how long the clearing is likely to last and whether a camera look makes sense.
One clogged sink, tub or shower drain is $200 to $800. A main line backing up into the house is $550 to $1,650. Where the clog is and how far down it sits moves the number inside that range.
Better not. The strong ones can sit in the trap, damage older pipe, and splash back on whoever opens the drain next. Try a plunger on a sink or tub, and if that doesn’t move it, call.
