Bristow’s trim and floors move first
Newer houses finished fast in a wet summer lose that moisture in their first heating seasons. A steady mid 30s indoors keeps the baseboards tight and the floor boards from opening.

What moves the price is the model and the path to it: a bypass model on an open basement furnace with a water line close by is the simple end, a fan-powered model in a tight closet with a long run for water and a drain is the other.
If the house already has a humidifier that stopped, we look at it first. Often it’s a crusted water panel, a closed saddle valve or a control that lost its wiring, and that’s a repair, not a new unit.
What’s different in Bristow
Three in four owner homes in the Linton Hall part of Bristow went up in 2000 or later, and the median is 2004. A house that new is still settling. The first few Januaries are when drywall seams show hairlines, door casings pull away a hair and the hardwood the builder laid in a humid July starts to gap. Moisture in the winter air slows all of that down. It is the cheapest cosmetic insurance a newer house has.
Nearly nine in ten owners here heat with gas, so the usual fit is a bypass Aprilaire, the 600 series, riding the warm air your furnace already makes. About one home in eight runs on electric, which usually means a heat pump moving cooler air; that wants a fan-powered unit in the 700 series. Tell us which you have on the first call and we will show up with the right parts.
Around three in ten homes here are townhouses, and the furnace in many of them lives in a closet off the hall or the basement stairs. Those closets are tight, and the humidifier needs room above the plenum, a water line and a drain within reach. Detached houses on the cul-de-sacs off Linton Hall Road have more room, but the same rule holds: we pick the spot by where the drain can go, not by where it looks tidy.
If your builder put a humidifier on the furnace, check it before you buy another. Many of them sit with the water shut off since the first summer. When a humidifier stops, the $99 visit finds out whether it needs a pad, a valve or a control, or whether it is time to replace it. The $99 visit comes first.

The signs
Newer houses finished fast in a wet summer lose that moisture in their first heating seasons. A steady mid 30s indoors keeps the baseboards tight and the floor boards from opening.
A zap off every light switch in January means the air in the house is well under 30 percent. Outdoor winter air holds little water, and heating it dries it further.
Wood gives up water in dry air. Gaps between floorboards, a cabinet door that sticks, or a piano that won’t hold its tuning through winter all point the same way.

Choosing who does it
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you one, us included.
A humidifier sheds a little water, and it has to go somewhere that is not the drywall. Ask the tech to point to the drain path and the water line before the work starts.
A humidifier needs a water line and, for most models, a drain. Whoever looks for both before quoting is the one who won’t surprise you on install day.
A bypass model, a fan-powered model and a steam model each suit different systems. Ask why theirs fits your furnace or heat pump, not just what it costs.

Moisés’ HVAC work is exceptional. He installed a return that completely resolved a static build up problem we had. He also installed a whole house humidifier that we are very pleased with. I’d trust SwiftPro for any of my HVAC needs!

Questions
Wood takes on moisture in July and gives it back in January. A humidifier keeps the winter swing smaller, so a house less than twenty years old settles with fewer cracks.
Yes, if it is the right kind. A heat pump’s air is cooler, so a bypass model has little to work with; a fan-powered one does the job. See how the models compare.
It’s priced at your house, in writing, because the model and the work depend on your system, your ducts and where the water line is. If you have one that stopped working, the diagnostic visit is $99.
The EPA says keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent. On the coldest nights we run it nearer the low end so windows don’t sweat, and an Aprilaire with an outdoor sensor turns itself down for you.
