Hardwood and a house full of stuff
Moving families notice it first: furniture that was fine at the last post now has a loose joint or a sticking drawer. Dry winter air in Northern Virginia does that to wood.

What moves the price is the model and the path to it: a bypass model on an open basement furnace with a water line close by is the simple end, a fan-powered model in a tight closet with a long run for water and a drain is the other.
If the house already has a humidifier that stopped, we look at it first. Often it’s a crusted water panel, a closed saddle valve or a control that lost its wiring, and that’s a repair, not a new unit.
What’s different in Fort Belvoir
Most homes with a Fort Belvoir 22060 address are rented, and the family housing on the installation is privatized, run by a housing company rather than the Army itself. A whole-home humidifier is wired into the furnace and tied to a water line, so it’s a change to the building. The landlord or housing office has to agree before anyone starts.
If you’re a renter with dry air, start there. Send the housing office a note about the static, the gaps in the floors or the sticking doors, and ask whether they’ll add a humidifier or approve one. We can write up what a unit would involve so they have a clear picture. A tabletop unit is the stopgap while you wait.
Homes outside the gate with Fort Belvoir mail fall under Fairfax County, and many of those have owners who can decide for themselves. Much of the housing here is townhouse and apartment-style, with a single furnace or air handler in a closet. That makes the humidifier a closet job, with the drain route the part to plan.
Most heating around here runs on gas, which works well with a bypass Aprilaire, and the rest is electric, for the fan-powered one. Whatever you have, we confirm it at the furnace. If a humidifier is already installed and stopped, the $99 visit finds out why, and the housing office usually wants that report anyway.
The signs
Moving families notice it first: furniture that was fine at the last post now has a loose joint or a sticking drawer. Dry winter air in Northern Virginia does that to wood.
A zap off every light switch in January means the air in the house is well under 30 percent. Outdoor winter air holds little water, and heating it dries it further.
Wood gives up water in dry air. Gaps between floorboards, a cabinet door that sticks, or a piano that won’t hold its tuning through winter all point the same way.

Choosing who does it
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you one, us included.
On post, the landlord decides. Ask whether the installer will give them a written scope and price, since that is usually what gets approval.
A humidifier needs a water line and, for most models, a drain. Whoever looks for both before quoting is the one who won’t surprise you on install day.
A bypass model, a fan-powered model and a steam model each suit different systems. Ask why theirs fits your furnace or heat pump, not just what it costs.

Moisés’ HVAC work is exceptional. He installed a return that completely resolved a static build up problem we had. He also installed a whole house humidifier that we are very pleased with. I’d trust SwiftPro for any of my HVAC needs!

Questions
Not on your own. The housing company owns the system, so they need to approve it. Ask them first and we can help with the details.
A tabletop unit in the bedroom helps one room. Fill it daily and clean it weekly, and keep it away from walls and wood furniture.
It’s priced at your house, in writing, because the model and the work depend on your system, your ducts and where the water line is. If you have one that stopped working, the diagnostic visit is $99.
The EPA says keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent. On the coldest nights we run it nearer the low end so windows don’t sweat, and an Aprilaire with an outdoor sensor turns itself down for you.
Ready when you are
