What moves the price is the model and the path to it: a bypass model on an open basement furnace with a water line close by is the simple end, a fan-powered model in a tight closet with a long run for water and a drain is the other.
If the house already has a humidifier that stopped, we look at it first. Often it’s a crusted water panel, a closed saddle valve or a control that lost its wiring, and that’s a repair, not a new unit.
What’s different in Broad Run
The median owner home in Broad Run’s ZIP was built in 1979, and more than half date from before 1980. Houses from that decade were built before anyone worried about air sealing, so the winter wind comes through sash windows, gaps around the sills and old fireplaces. Dry air does not just sit in them. It gets replaced constantly.
That means a Broad Run house usually needs more humidifier output than a new one, and a unit sized for a tight house will not keep up on a cold, windy week. Sealing a few leaks helps, but the practical answer is a higher-output model, with a sensor that tells it when to back off. Our main page covers the models.
Heating here is about half electric and nearly a third propane, with no gas shares worth mentioning. Heat pumps get the fan-powered Aprilaire 700 series. A propane furnace behaves like a gas one, so the simpler bypass model works. Every house in the ZIP is a detached home, which means a basement or crawlspace system rather than a closet in a row of townhouses.
Roughly one home in six with a Broad Run address is on the Prince William County side, the rest in Fauquier County. For a humidifier, that does not change the work. What does change it is whether you are on a well, since hard water scales the pad. If you are not sure, a quick test tells us what to plan for.
By the numbers

The signs
A 1979 house with original windows sweats at the glass before it gets humid anywhere else. Better to set the humidifier low and let the outdoor sensor handle it.
A zap off every light switch in January means the air in the house is well under 30 percent. Outdoor winter air holds little water, and heating it dries it further.
Wood gives up water in dry air. Gaps between floorboards, a cabinet door that sticks, or a piano that won’t hold its tuning through winter all point the same way.

Choosing who does it
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you one, us included.
Ask what output they chose and why. A unit sized for a new house will run flat out and still lose to a drafty one.
A humidifier needs a water line and, for most models, a drain. Whoever looks for both before quoting is the one who won’t surprise you on install day.
A bypass model, a fan-powered model and a steam model each suit different systems. Ask why theirs fits your furnace or heat pump, not just what it costs.

Excellent HVAC service for a fair and reasonable price. Moises Rojas fixed my home’s whole house humidifier, which I had no idea wasn’t working for over two years since moving into this house, and now the air in my home is very comfortable.

Questions
Yes. Static is a dry-air symptom, and holding the house in the mid 30s percent makes it much less noticeable.
Often, if we can reach the plenum and run a drain. We look at it in person to be sure.
It’s priced at your house, in writing, because the model and the work depend on your system, your ducts and where the water line is. If you have one that stopped working, the diagnostic visit is $99.
The EPA says keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent. On the coldest nights we run it nearer the low end so windows don’t sweat, and an Aprilaire with an outdoor sensor turns itself down for you.
