A piano and plaster cracks
Vienna’s 1950s and 60s houses often have plaster or older trim that shows hairline cracks each winter, and a piano by an outside wall drifts out of tune. Dry air does both.

What moves the price is the model and the path to it: a bypass model on an open basement furnace with a water line close by is the simple end, a fan-powered model in a tight closet with a long run for water and a drain is the other.
If the house already has a humidifier that stopped, we look at it first. Often it’s a crusted water panel, a closed saddle valve or a control that lost its wiring, and that’s a repair, not a new unit.
What’s different in Vienna
Vienna has two kinds of house on one street. A fifth of owner homes were built before 1960, and a quarter since 2000, many of them rebuilds on lots where an older house came down. The old ones leak air and dry out quickly. The new ones are sealed, and a setting that suits the ranch will put water on the windows of the house next door.
So we set the number by the house, not the town. A leaky 1955 cape wants a unit with room to spare and a setting around 35 percent. A new rebuild wants a smaller one and an outdoor sensor, so the setting drops on the coldest nights. Eight in ten Vienna owners heat with gas, which makes a bypass model the usual pick.
The Town’s own 2025 water report calls its water moderately hard to hard, 5 to 10 grains per gallon. On a humidifier that means scale on the water panel, usually enough to need a new one every heating season. It’s a simple swap you can do yourself, and we show you the first time.
Inside the Windover Heights Historic District, the Town reviews exterior changes. A humidifier lives inside, but the small outdoor sensor does not, so ask before one goes on a wall you can see. The condensation guide shows what to look for on the glass.

By the numbers

Nearly the whole town sits in 22180, which it shares with county streets toward Dunn Loring and Merrifield.
Vienna mail outside the town line: Wolf Trap and the Tysons edge in 22182, the Oakton side of 22181, Dunn Loring. The figures are Wolf Trap’s, the biggest piece.
The signs
Vienna’s 1950s and 60s houses often have plaster or older trim that shows hairline cracks each winter, and a piano by an outside wall drifts out of tune. Dry air does both.
A zap off every light switch in January means the air in the house is well under 30 percent. Outdoor winter air holds little water, and heating it dries it further.
Wood gives up water in dry air. Gaps between floorboards, a cabinet door that sticks, or a piano that won’t hold its tuning through winter all point the same way.

Choosing who does it
Questions to ask anybody who quotes you one, us included.
A leaky ranch and a tight rebuild need different output. A quote that picks the same one for both is guessing.
A humidifier needs a water line and, for most models, a drain. Whoever looks for both before quoting is the one who won’t surprise you on install day.
A bypass model, a fan-powered model and a steam model each suit different systems. Ask why theirs fits your furnace or heat pump, not just what it costs.

Moisés’ HVAC work is exceptional. He installed a return that completely resolved a static build up problem we had. He also installed a whole house humidifier that we are very pleased with. I’d trust SwiftPro for any of my HVAC needs!

Questions
No, but it scales the water panel. Expect to change it once a season.
No, but it needs a smaller setting. A sensor outdoors keeps the glass dry on the coldest nights.
It’s priced at your house, in writing, because the model and the work depend on your system, your ducts and where the water line is. If you have one that stopped working, the diagnostic visit is $99.
The EPA says keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent. On the coldest nights we run it nearer the low end so windows don’t sweat, and an Aprilaire with an outdoor sensor turns itself down for you.
